View Full Version : Ham radio tower/antenna value
Slipknot 12-28-2010, 11:12 AM a friend is wondering how much an antenna is worth
it appears to be very similar to this one
Crank-up Tilt-over Tower by dxzone.com (http://www.dxzone.com/cgi-bin/dir/jump2.cgi?ID=12733)
best i could do searching for it.
it is collapsible(tilts over) and goes up pretty high I guess
so what do you think it could sell for on craigslist or something?
thanks

UserRemoved1 12-28-2010, 12:03 PM tubular or lattice?
Slipknot 12-28-2010, 01:22 PM I don't know
I can find out
UserRemoved1 12-28-2010, 01:50 PM there should be a manufacturers plate somewhere on it within 5' of the base. Find out how many sections, general condition, manual or electric winch, manufacturer if known, or get me a good digital pic of it and I'll tell you what it's worth. also if there are any antennas on it, if so how many elements, and if there's a rotator on it and if they have the control box for same. CL is not a place to get the best buck for that. If it's in the air it's actually worth less than if it's on the ground.
Just fyi whoever buys this make sure if they're taking it down they have riggers insurance. Homeowners will not cover this kind of thing if something happens. Crankups also don't meet building code for the state of ma.
Slipknot 12-30-2010, 08:28 PM I took a picture
I don't know anything about any building permit, I bet he didn't get one no doubt.
it seems to have a lot of elements, manual winch,
it must be cemented into the ground, I hope he used anchor bolts
it looks pretty big
said he'd like to get 500 for it but I guess it's worth what someone is willing to pay.
UserRemoved1 12-31-2010, 05:52 AM K that's Rohn 25G with a foldover section. Crappy pic but it looks to be in rough condition and rusty-worth about $20 per 10' section, I'd say ask 500 and see what he gets for it. Looks like CB antennas on it. Put it on CL first and if he don't sell it lemme know and I can list on eham. Someone will pick it up. Again if it's still in the air make sure whoever takes it down has liability insurance and workmens comp for this type of rigging.
That ain't big though :hee:
UserRemoved1 12-31-2010, 05:54 AM Love the base guying job. Ham an egger special LOL
UserRemoved1 12-31-2010, 05:57 AM List it as a 50-60' Rohn 25g foldover tower with quad antenna on top, cables, winches, Rohn foldover kit included, you take down, $500 obo.
Slipknot 12-31-2010, 07:55 AM thanks :)

my camera sucks and the sun was going down
UserRemoved1 12-31-2010, 09:07 AM This is big :hee:
I built these antennas. I'm shooting this from 200' plus away. That is bigger than your house. This guy is going to talk to Japan on a frequency very close to tv channel 2 :grins:
UserRemoved1 12-31-2010, 09:11 AM This is bigger :hee: Top antenna is twice or more than the size of your house. I built all that too.
This is a 3x winning world record contest station. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
