Visited a fellow fishing maniac who winters in Key Largo. Had a blast. Did a lot of sailfishing and hit a few wrecks.
Florida understands fishermen. MA is in the stone-age. We need to do a LOT more with our artificial reef program up here. They have a TON of big bait down there and it is easy to catch. Fishing is off the hook on the wrecks down there, it is an instant bite and the fish are BIG and mean! I am going out and investing in a few of the high end jigging setups this winter and give it more of an effort up here than I have to date.
Pull up on a deep water wreck (~200' of water...~about 7-8 miles offshore) Drop a big butterfly type jig down take a few cranks, jig, a few cranks, jig, BANG! your on something substantial! Lots of species. My buddy had a fish on a Zbaas spinner...it was a one-way event, never got an inch on the fish, just unstoppable. couple photos... (25-30# barracuda bit off at the head in one bite 1/2 way up (never saw what did it), and one of the sails)
On the way back to Miami, stopped by Capt Harry's...now that is a tackle shop, think Wallmart in size, but all fishing, they just have everything.
(air temp 84...water temp 76...was sweet... and just look at those seas :) )
