I've forgotten more than I know..... I have a lot drill indexes in various states of incomplete states. So what sizes do I need to have available to dedicate to the plug building bench? Just want to have it all together when I finish spinning. Especially what size forstners, and countersinks are folks using? Are the grommets and weights still pretty standardized sizes? I'm overthinking this...:smash:

All depends on what size you need Ross. I probably use......40 different bits. Depends on grommet size, size of the eyes I want. Thru-drill 1/8 or 5/32 depending on preference. Just keep them all handy and have your hardware in hand so you can size it and make no mistakes.

I use the following;

Forstners: 1/2 for countersinking belly grommets
1/4, 5/16, 3/8 for belly holes and eye sockets

Quality 8 inch drill bits.... both 1/8 and 5/32

bit to prep recess in tail lead for tail grommet... slightly larger than 1/8

all depends on size of plugs, what you get used to using for stuff like thru drilling

thru drilling I like 5/32 but also have lots of 1/8 bits and a couple 3/16

eyes drilled with forstner I have 1/4 , 3/8 , 1/2 , and 3/4

belly grommets, I use what fits the swivel I need to reach the wire, as small as possible usually. generally 1/4 to 3/8 and inbetween
those step drills are nice for setting the grommets down a touch so they sit flat.

All the fractional sizes for eyes and through drilling. I also have a .343
brad point for belly holes. The grommets fit perfectly!
