This last almost zero accumulation storm really complicated things. There's now a 2 inch or so crust on the snow. That makes everything you might want to do that much more difficult.
Trying to remove snow from selected spots is more than twice as hard cause you can't even just walk through it. You need to high step each step above the crust and then carefully push down to break the crust then apply all your weight carefully until the soft powder under the crust packs down and you have firm footing. Forget the snow removal part , just getting to the spots is treacherous and tiring. I only do 10 to 15 minutes then come in and rest. i don't want to overdo it. But the coming and going back and forth is a real chore all on its own. Once the snow is trampled in a given area , it just seems way easier to actually get some work done.
I also think the crust slows down the evaporation (sublimation) of the snow that would normally be a big help on sunny days like today. The ice cap means most of the snow will just stay put until some actual melting takes place.
Although we have gotten much bigger single storms , this year has to go down in the books as the biggest snow Pain In The Butt year ever! EVER!!!
thank you. Bitching helps a lot!! :)
