View Full Version : Have you ever Noticed ?
Raven 02-04-2011, 06:21 AM That during all (or most) of Obama's speeches
he never looks forward at "you" the video Audience
he only turns his head from side to side....
I can't remember any other President doing that...
he never looks you in the eye . or avoids it
WHAT does this MEAN?
Fly Rod 02-04-2011, 08:00 AM He needs to keep his eyes on the telepromtor. :rotf2:
buckman 02-04-2011, 08:03 AM He's reading his speach word for word. Some people can read ahead of what they speak and look away from the teleprompter. I guess he can't. Bush could, maybe he was just a little smarter.
Raven 02-04-2011, 08:22 AM he pauses frequently enough for a momentary glance forward
i would think... but apparently not.

One of the recommended ways to overcome "stage fright" when speaking to an audience is, exactly, looking from side to side and avoiding eye contact. It's a way of not acknowledging the presence of a crowd.
On another psychological level, it could be a sign of insincerity--but that's a bit tricky, since politicians are adept at faking "sincerity" by "looking you in the eye" when they speak.
JohnnyD 02-04-2011, 01:26 PM Ah, yes. The good ol' teleprompter crew. You know, I don't think this has ever been discussed before.
I'd definitely rather him use the prompter than write his talking points on his hand.

It's also good form to ensure all parts of the audience feel they're being addressed. I do a lot of speaking for business and this can be a challenge unless you really practice moving back and forth...I've also found that making eye contact with individuals in a large group, unless you're addressing a question, can be quite distracting.
When speaking directly into a camera the teleprompter is usually right below the lens.

You're mistaken... those three groups you mentioned are all alike - ignorant nutjobs.
The Dad Fisherman 02-04-2011, 02:27 PM It might have something to do with the fact that there is not just one camera in the room...how many networks cover his speeches, both domestic and foriegn. Unless he picks his favorite network ( I guess you FOX guys are SOL :hihi:) and constantly stares at that camera, he has to scan the entire auditorium constantly.
RIJIMMY 02-04-2011, 03:35 PM I think he is looking for the giant fish sandwich about to fall from the sky

Some that write on their hand make a hell of a lot more for an episode then an ambalance driver.
There are jealous people out there that just can't get above their bills and want to demean others.
Fly Rod 02-04-2011, 08:09 PM When talking to some one that does not look me in the eyes when they talk are liars.

When a person says what they mean and means what they say
they will look you straight in the eyes.

Not impressive.... enough
Until we start building Carbon fiber nano tube technology cars
that we can shove down the road with the push of our hand
nothing will change....the whole car has to be a solar voltaic panel
capable of absorbing sunshine and storing it in high tech batteries.
the age of metal (body) cars is OVER. just my opinion though.
climb inside the Ipod.....not carry it in your pocket.
if you're having a heart attack it instantly drives you to the hospital alerting paramedics.
