View Full Version : Anyone want to make some extra $$$

Raider Ronnie 02-06-2011, 08:33 AM Steady work for someone!

I've got LOTS of pathetic people on my Facebook friends list who on a daily basis have to go on there and let the world know everything they do all day & night.
A few examples,

"worked out at the gym with Sarah - done, post office - done, CVS - done, 2 loads of laundry - done, made homemade raviolis - done, and its not even noon time yet... way to much energy today:)"

"food shopping done, pedicure done, had a great lunch, and later going to dinner with Mike. sounds like a great way to start the weekend:)"

"out to dinner with Mike and friends:)"

Got LOTS friends like these !

Here is the deal.
I tip you off of location and when no one is home (not hard to figure out) you can go in and clean them out of their valuables and just throw me a cut for the tip.

Me too Ross :btu:
unfortunately I can't say the same for my family.

my wife for instance had her account hacked early this am along with taking over her gmail account as well.:smash: got woken up by a phone call from England at 5:25 am, them a friend called my phone at 8 telling me her account was hacked and someone was trying to scam money from them saying we were in the UK and got mugged and need money. They also sent emails to all her contacts saying same:smash: They also deleted all of her emails on that account.
so she is trying to deal with that now. Has an appointment with a cop in 2 days to go over what we have. One friend called while in a chat with the scammer/hacker and asked for money and gave some wire transfer info, I told her to ask for an address to mail to so we got that anyway.

Change your passwords often people.
facebook is not safe

maybe my wife learned something from this

I don't do facebook and never will

Ronnie, if you have any extra work, i could use some, thanks

More sorry for you and you family,

Bots hit FB, gmail , and publicly accessible system all day trying to break into accounts, once they are in they sift through your personal data, and play the game. the odds are low but somebody usually falls to it.

I got hit on gmail a few months ago. FB just recently.

If you're online, you have to be online safely.

Slipknot 02-06-2011, 02:37 PM your email was not on her email account

I suspect that Karl and maybe others got it because quite a few months ago danny signed me up an account on facebook without my permission and a bunch of people from this site who have facebook somehow friended my account within an hour of me finding out about it and then i spent a few hours trying to let Karl and whoever that I no longer have an account, it was deleted. But I bet once facebook has my info, even though I deleted it, they probably did not. Anyhow, I don't know how these things work, I'm not a hacker or the police. Did you ever have a FB account?
did you ever send me an email? if so, then that would be a reason your email is out there someplace. I don't have any control over any of this nonsense. just delete them and don't open or reply to them obviously.

Did they compromise the email form the account Danny signed you up for, or the email addy from Melissa's account?

anyways.. FB..like SB is what you make it..your info can be compromised from anywhere on the net...so at least I have been told...if some IT whiz hacker wants it, he will get it..
also..there are settings that most people don't adjust to secure their account.. I have mine set up fairly secure I think..(OK, IT guys, fire away, I am sure you can beat it to death as per usual)..but if anybody including myself, signs onto my account from any other computer than mine.. I amnotified immedietely.. and I also have it set to go to the https. instead of the http. web address, plus all the other recommended stuff that this old non PC sabby guy has had made available to him.

anyways.. Slip...jeeze.. I almost had the fundraiser thread posted up for you......

hope they didn't do more to you guys than just create a headache.
Slipknot 02-06-2011, 03:51 PM ya I don't know what they hacked Karl
I have no idea who they contacted
but if anyone ever sent me an email, it could have been on some list.

even winchmaster called me wondering how they knocked me in the head saying they must have stood on a milkcrate :)

thanks

we'll secure it all up
put up firewalls, nuclear radiation domes, electric fences, you name it

As you said, use more secure passwords, change it frequently, use malware, av, browser, cookie, everything protectors, never keep anything that has money associated with it online, create email accounts that have nothing to do with your personal information

Use a home firewall, encrypt your wifi

and if you have children on the internet use a tool to capture their sessions and send it to your anonymous email account for review.
Internet is full of scams. People do fall for it... Police Log: January 31, 2011 - South Kingstown, RI Patch (http://southkingstown.patch.com/articles/police-log-january-31-2011)

it sounds like overkill, by my passwords will typically have uppercase, lowercase, symbol(s) and number(s). Facebook, email, bank, etc... And I try to use different pw for every site.

It is hard to keep track of all of that, but I am paranoid.

Got a virus last week that when I went on any credit card or bank website another window would pop up (that looked just like the bank or whatever) and ask for additional info.. ssn, dob, etc... I call the bank and they confirmed it was a virus. Symantec, with definitions fully updated did not pick up the virus on repeated scans, and it took forever to end up finding and cleaning the bs....

Yeh, it sucks. The Innernets are broken, especially email.

The more surface you touch on the Internet, typically the more exposed you are. And like herpes, once your infected...

What can you do? Don't forward the chain letters. All you've done is verified your email address.

Run your computer updates weekly at minimum. You will be more secure, 'cept for the occasion when a MS patch breaks something (yes, this happens).

Run Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware on ALL of your computers and keep up to date. The only thing that running your 6 year expired Norton 2004 does is give a false sense of security. Free AVG is adequate, Kaspersky is pretty good. MS Security Essentials - jury is still out.

Update, update, update.

MS Security Essentials cleaned 3 viruses off my laptop that a fully updated Symatec Endpoint didnt even detect on a full scan.....
ThrowingTimber 02-08-2011, 12:57 PM Reimage that machine. There's probably been a root kit installed.
