What a damn embarrassment. Instead of messing with the arrangement she should have learned the words. I hope the NFL doesn't have to pay since she didn;t know the words. The NFL should apologize to the Nation.

Did you see the look on the oversees troops faces...what a shame.

Surely such a celebrated and accomplished professional shouldn't make such a mistake, right?

I liked the halftime show. They sand live and I liked that. The Guns and Roses thing with Slash was good for the Rock fans and the USher thing was for the hip hop side of life and they get entertainment as well. I liked the TRON visual theme as it was better than watching another over the hill living off a record made fifteen years ago anyone poorly lip sync old hits.

Only thing I found redeeming about the halftime show was Fergie......she's pretty smokin....other than that I thought it was pretty lame...live don't neccesarily mean good.

B.E.P. - was pretty good, not excellent. I txt Patrick about the Fergie/Slash, knowing he is a major fan of both :rotf2:

Gripes and likes; (Breaking out into another thread here) (http://www.striped-bass.com/Stripertalk/scuppers/69098-superbowl-likes-dislikes-commercials-etc.html#post834782)

Was surprised to see Bono in one of the clips about being American. To the best of my recollection he is merely critical of Americans while making huge coin off of them, and not a US citizen (regardless of the fact that he had the best 1/2 time show evah because the Pats won :tooth: ).

Commercials: Averaged a great than normal stink factor - not much funny.

I agree that she's hot and has an incredible voice. Her performance up until the gaff was great. It was clear she knew she effed up immediately, just look at her face...pretty impressive that she was able to keep her composure and finish.

What I don't understand is the notion that she's somehow slighted the entire country. As a professional I'm sure she's beyond embarrassed at her mistake. It was unfortunate. Doesn't mean she still didn't sing her heart out for the good old USA.

Halftime show was a joke BTW. They should just have U2 play every year :biglaugh:

:rotf2: Yeh, right (though I shouldn't take the bait). I've spent a fair amount of time in other countries including one that no longer exists. I know we have a great country and that we could be doing better.

(have Fergie dance half nekkid in the background is alright..meybe)
(Christine Hot?.. man... yech.. the Bloom is def off that rose...)

ska-roo the advertising..and can most of the friggin chatter from the announcers.. get it back to being about football!!!
just air the game, not the past 3 plays we missed..because they were showing/yapping about something else.

Absolutely right. That's all she had to do and she winged it. In my world we call them "Hacks". The song sung properly is a challenge to a trained voice, no need to add bullshirt. BTW the tune was a drinking tune not a snorting tune, 'Tina.

Hands down the best singing of the national anthem in my opinion, no question best of any super bowl !

Whitney's was the best. I do not understand why they do not make it clear to the artist who is given the honor of singing at the time of their selection what is expected is a straight rendition with no ad-libs or histrionics. In the sound check if the artist goes off plan chuck them and have the Whitney record or some military band play over the sound system.

Actually, the artist is required to submit a recording of the intended rendition to the NFL in the week before the game, for the league's approval.

Furthermore, the Star Spangled Banner is a horrible melody (as BB Jake noted, it's an old English drinking song originally titled "To Anachrion in Heaven"), with an insane octave and a fifth range, which is challenging even for a trained vocalist. It really hasn't been the official National Anthem all that long--only since the 1930s. Many people favor replacing it with America the Beautiful. Myself included.

On top of all that, Fort McHenry aside, the Brits basically kicked our asses during the War of 1812. They captured Washington, DC, and burned the White House. The greatest American victory, the Battle of New Orleans, came after the war was officially over.

It was sort of, "unfunny". Sitting there, waiting for her to screw the lyrics up. Then I said, nah, she's way too good for that.
Not.
She had her haters before. A few more now. A bad day at the office for her camp.

I'd have to add the Dixie Chicks to the top rungs of the "best rendition of". Very nice harmony on one tough to sing song.

At the other end of the spectrum and for some additional cringe worthy singing, don't forget Carl Lewis. "Uh-oh..."

two of the talented ladies in this video are 6 years old, another one is 7, the oldest is 9...

they sing much much better than C.A....

AND..they know the words...

the NFL should pay these young ladies whatever it was the gave C.A.

to sing it next year..

I agree we should expect better from a pro but I am willing to leave some room for "I was nervous and lost my place" , or " I was thinkin about the improvisations I was adding and forgot where I was in the song". etc. Making mistakes is human. I even made a mistake once when I thought I had made an error but really hadn't. :) Everyone makes Mistakes , it doesn't make them unAmerican. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I also agree that it is an extremely difficult song to sing. Not the words but the tune is rediculous for most peoples vocal range. "America the Beautiful" is a great song and i think that except for the tradition that supports "The Star Spangled Banner" , we would have changed to "America the Beautiful" or "God Bless America" (civil liberties group would challenge that) a long time ago.
