So I got home last night and my wife says to go look in the side yard, it looks like a dead animal. OK, so I grab a flashlight and it looks like maybe a chipmunk, I'd better get rid of it before the kids see it and get freaked out. As I got closer to it, I could see it was a rabbit, or better yet, half a rabbit. The thing was severed in half at the shoulders. The snow wasn't disturbed, no tracks, no blood or fur. Maybe a hawk.

Snowplow or snowblower?

If it was the snowblower I'd have noticed the pink mist. This was a fresh kill. Now I just have to watch out for my dog.

Hawk, owl, eagle. I have some flying around my property and they go after pretty big opponents. Young friend of mine was in the front yard about a half mile away and a huge hawk swooped down and scooped up his three pound little dog. Never to be seen again. Interesting how strong thier jaws and talons are to take that kind of a bite mid-flight.
