Well I was looking at some older posts from the archives and really liked the shape of this plug. I did the best I could do with the measurements I found here and did a couple of diagrams so I can play around. Figured I would post them here since everyone has helped me out with my stupid questions :smash:.
If anyone has anything to add to the diagrams just drop me a PM and I can make changes!

Your diagrams are better than the original article, which has the hook position pictured wrong and lopsided "exact" profiles that will screw you up if you use them.

Your diagram is wrong in that it shows a tail hook position. The plug does not carry a tail hook (which would unbalance it and inhibit its action). The article makes clear it should just have a light screw eye with a flag bucktail.

The plug as you picture it, and as the article describes it, will come out weighing 4-4.5 oz. If you thin it some, taper the sides a bit more, and shorten the large weight so it is closer to an inch you can end up with a plug at about 3 oz.

The taper at the head and tail are important. The plug should float level with the water 1/2 way up these slopes (at least as a starting point). Add or subtract weight on either end to get it right.

Frech's epoxy hook hanger system is very strong provided you epoxy the eyes in using 2 ton epoxy (not 5 minute stuff) and you do it before you seal the plug.

Fish it with 1 foot tugs of your rod tip.

Here's the outline out of a cad file if you want to scale it and cut out for a pattern.

This will help, too.
Drill your holes before you bandsaw, the back hook hole at an angle. Measure the depth you want to drill off the side profile as in the first picture
Then check out this thread for some tricks on shaping the plug.

This was the first one. It took 6 minutes rough and finish/cut out. I think I can cut this in half with a bit of work on the keyboard.

So this wicked wicked WICKED smahhhht engineer dood was in the shop today. He looked at the golden banana and saw a different way to manufacture it than I did. Instead of milling 2 sides and pocketing the middle.....mill it as one piece with the top down...then sand the top edge to a profile...then things like drilling the belly etc can be written into the file.

Then you'd just have to drill front to back and the rear weight side to side....

Stay tooned :hee:

Anyone ever tried to put a metal lip on the front of one of these? I'm thinking this profile would swim really wild?
