it's nice to stink like fish again, it's been too long. first off- we pushed off the dock around 11:30 to find the elusive "night bite". i've never fished for cod at night before and hopefully won't be doing it alot in the future. we hit the first drop and nada, tried reancoring and still nothing. made a move to the bumper boat area and got into a slow pick with alot of time between bites. we power drifted around for a bit and as false dawn was approaching i had a few fish in the bag but it was pretty lame. then the capt made the move to the spot. as the sun was rising the rods started doubling over and we got into a sweet bite which lasted till it was time to come home. finally tally for me was 15 keeper cod, most around 22-25". pool fish looked around 10#. the bite was on bait - i didn't jig at all, though i saw some fish taken on jigs. had a great day, nice way to kick off the 2011 season. nice to meet you rhoddy

Nice going. I'm going tomorrow night on a Montauk based boat, I hope I do as well as you did.

Good to hear you did well. Does the IC use fresh clams and chum? I've never had much luck codding on the FF, they're always had old clams. Been anchored ~100' from the Viking and they were hauling them up hand over fist, while we were getting nada.

All of my trips on the Viking have used fresh shucked clams, with great results.

for chum they use clams in a chumpot and chuck shells and whole clams they break up over the side

Just wondering if the party/head boys got regs changed like other species.

I went last weekend, loads of fish but they were all small, had to catch 20 fish to get 1 keeper. But it was lots of fun, lock and load fishing, fish on almost as soon as your sinker hit the bottom. All fish on clams, most fish drifting.
