Yeah, I got my freebie yesterday....was gonna post on the other thread, but didn't want my question to get lost....

Since they sent such a "generous" 75 yards... (just kidding, hey it was FREE, whaddya want!), I was wondering what the diameter of it is.....

I mean, I know my reel capacities by lb test of mono, and also by diameter. And most mono I get has the diameter on it as well, which can vary from brand to brand. So, I know braid usually has a much smaller diameter per lb test, and since the spool they sent me doesn't indicate the diameter, I have no idea how it compares to others.

With the measly 75 yards, I had planned on putting it on my small spinning reel that I use in Hatteras for specks and fluke in the sound, and for pompano, croakers, sea mullet, and such in the surf. 75 yards is more than enough for that. But was just wondering how full the spool will be, which I could determine if I knew the diameter.

Thanks..........

Good, if I can get my neice, mother, father and mother in-law, and uncle to cough up their samples I will end up with enough to fill a reel with knots :wall:

I could on the other hand perfectly fill a typical large mouth bass conventional with one spool.

Steve, when I get my sample I'll mic it and post the diameter.

According to the Spiderwire Stealth chart, the equivilent mono diameter for 30 lb Stealth is 8lb. test.

I use stealth for everything. I use 65 pound 15 pound Dim. I have used the 30 before and it works great but be careful!!! If you have a thrashing fish and grab the line the 8 pound dim will cut you open like a razor.
Just a word of caution!!
Good luck

As usual, the published "mono equivalent diameters" of Spiderwire Stealh are almost as in touch with reality as the daily press conferences of that Iraqi joker.

80# SS is supposed to have 17# mono diameter, and the Abu 7000 series is supposed to hold 325 yards of 20# mono. So why do I still have over 50 yards of SS left on the 300 yard spool I filled my newest 7000 series reel with

Got my tiny little piece....

The section I checked is between .0125 and .013 inches in diameter.

If that's for 30# Spiderwire Stealth, it translates more like 12 or 14# mono, not 8#. 8# mono should be like .007 or .008 inches.

Steve if you have to spools for the reel, you could tape the spiderwire onto the spool, and put it all on. Then attatch your mono, and fill the spool. Then take the spool off of the reel put the empty one on the reel. Now transfer so that the mono is on the bottom, and braid on top. Thats how Mike T does it. ;)
