I've seen much worse, believe me. A whole family chopped to bits by a guard rail. It's a life changing event. You'll never look at your mortality the same again. I couldn't wish that on anyone.

Then there was the "Dad" I saw driving with his young son in the seat next to him.....all the while holding the phone up and texting away!!! Must have been tremendously important for him to risk his sons life and the lives of others driving around him myself included!!! Karma???? Mine is all good!:uhuh:

Sad thing is that even placing a call requires scrolling through contacts, which is also a distraction.I think no matter who is behind the wheel distractions do happen. To hope somebody encounters misfortune, especially one who is young and foolish, is pretty cold.I know you have kids Larry, what would you think if somebody hoped they crashed into a pole, regardless of the reason?

This time think before you respond.

Chris I have tried to drill it into my kids heads that under no circumstances should they #^&#^&#^&#^& around with the phone while driving! I hope they have the brains enough to listen.....the rest is in their hands Chris! I don't apologize for the way I think......texting while driving is the scourge of society worse than drunken driving and if you and others do not believe that then you will find the problem lies within! I have a white hot hate for people who F--K with their phones while driving! It seems to not be at the top of the list of things to do for people while they are behind the wheel and I find it reprehensible that other people are paying the price for the indiscretions of some!!! :fury:

How is that for thinking before I respond?

You are not the only one Larry, me too! The smart phone is in the bag while driving. The world can wait until I get to where I'm going plus I'm too busy avoiding all the other f****ing a&&&holes on their phones!

white hot hate can manifest itself into something on the physical realm is the problem..... Big guy

even tho i agree with your sentiment concerning "distracted driving"

i see the phone up and they're immediately classified as a drunk driver or worse

which gives me the right to pass them regardless of the circumstances such as a no passing zone because i can no longer depend on their driving skills to not involve myself in their collision.

You didn't answer my question Larry,so I would have suggest you read it again instead of filibustering as usual.Obviously your eyes are not always on the road as you claim, otherwise you wouldn't be able to provide all the anecdotes about people and their activities while driving. If your watching them, you are NOT watching the road.Change the radio;eyes are off the road.Reach for a donut;eyes are off the road.At no time in this discusion have I tried to advocate texting while driving as you imply Larry so lets NOT try to read between the lines. But back to the question you ignored.....

This time try to focus only on the question.

Go back and read it slowly and try to comprehend the question.

:claps::claps::claps: to both of you!

As for "Keeping your eyes on the road", part of effective, safe and efficient driving is being aware of your surroundings and ant imminent threats or dangers around you. Checking out distracted drivers has jump to the top of the "watch list" over "eyes on the road" mainly because texting/distracted/incapacitated drivers are so numerous.
Driving is no longer just "keeping your eyes on the road" as we were taught when we learned how to drive. Now it's "look front side and rear for wreckless drivers, look ahead for car-swallowing potholes, be a mind-reader and deduce where the next road-side repair party will be held and then keep 2 hands on the wheel (because of all the stuff listed above).

What do I think of ANY driver that texts or phones while driving?
They become the lowest form of driver, akin to unlicensed and uninsured illegal aliens when on the road.
Basically they get the same consideration from me that they deserve, since they really don't care about the lives (others) that they constantly put at risk! They're just POS's.

As I said Chris its in my kids hands and people can wish whatever they like...last I checked it was a free country! Chris.....I am the best driver on the road.....why?? Because I watch what is going on all around me at all times! I use all my mirrors side and rear, and yes....I watch everything that everyone driving around me is doing! People around me are not watching what they are doing so its up to me to watch out for them! I watch for body language also...head turns and the way a person is moving in their car.....they do not use their directionals much either Chris so anything I can take from the way someone near me is driving is a help so I can stay safe! Maybe you do not understand but whatever! When I am driving Chris....thats all I am doing is driving and the way I drive gives me an edge over the A-holes who are busy doing everything BUT driving!

Has anyone else here taken the National Defensive Driver's course? Do they even offer it anymore? I had to take it when I was a student/laborer for the County in KY. A real eyeopener.

My company's workers comp insurance carrier offers it. About 4 years ago, those of us who either drive for our jobs or have company cars all took it. Pretty good course. I would imagine that auto insurers would be able to tell you where it can be taken.

I went to Worcester and took a safe driver training class about 15 years ago.Complete with high speed braking, steering, and maneuvering. The biggest eye opener came in the classroom where all attendees admitted they learned a lot about stuff they thought they already knew. This is when I worked for the town and was mandatory for those of us carrying commercial drivers licenses. Also hold certified osha training certificate and anything else that saved the town money on insurance.

Larry, just because it's not illegal to be a d-bag it doesn't mean one should intentionally be a d-bag.Although I understand where some feel entitled to do just that.

Congrats on the best driver thing though.

This guy was texting and didn't see this rig taking a right turn. The road is ONE lane and the truck was hugging the left side of the lane to make a wide right turn. This guy (not paying any attention to what was really going on) thought the truck was going left. As you can see, the end result was not good.

The kicker is the driver of the car was.......90 years old!!!!!

the one thing you take away from a major
accident besides your life ..... that is

is how quickly you can go
from being a driver of the vehicle

to a passenger in the vehicle that
is totally out of your control

where forces such as spinning ,flipping
end over end or rolling the vehicle

and then being EJECTED thru a window

can take place .........in mere seconds

they are like shots of still photography actually
time slows down and everything happens in very slow motion

or seems like it anyways ..... :uhuh:http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c66/ravenob1/nod.gif
