I just got back from picking up a new Emblem 6000 at M&Ds in Wareham . While there I handled several sweet Fin-Nor spinning reels and was very impressed by their solid feel and heft... Mike has plenty of inventory of these reels if anyone wants to land a Tuna on a spin rig this season. .. Pricing was very reasonable as well..

Do you think that maybe you had the drag tightened down too much. I think if you tighten it down too much, especially at the beginning of the fight it can really fry the drag. But, if it is a bit looser it will not get so beat up. Not judging, but just curious because I just got one of these bad boys.

With the sizes headed this way, you may want to upgrade.
Especially if the Orcas follow :grins:

I wouldn't be concerned with a Fin Nor. They caught alot of fish last year. A reputable Cape Cod guide uses them exclusively and he catches a ton of them. We caught multiple fish on them last year without concern. This years class if they come up will be very very tough to catch with spinning gear regardless of who makes it. Problem is that the fish will be bigger stronger and harder fighting than last year. Plus catching these fish with spinning gear burns them up and ruins meat quality and reduces survival rates drastically. That being said that first hit and run on a spinning rod is what it is all about.

Reading Sami's report from last week on 360 was inspiring. He's got 225+ to the boat in less than 10 minutes cosistantly. That's as good or better than most with a 50.The guy isn't human. Better to have loved and lost ......regardless of the method.

I too am nervous that the class returning this year will be far too large to take on spinning. There were smaller fish a little more north which are probably the ones that we get on the SWC and SEC in the fall which will be a little easier to bring in..........hopefully. :)
