It was just outside my office window in Hopkinton about 3 or 4 years ago. Giant beautiful bird. They're closely related to the Ivory Billed which hadn't been seen since about 1945 and thought to be extinct until some Cornell ornithologists claim to have seen and recorded one in the swamps of Arkansas just a few years ago. Raven 03-28-2011, 05:20 PM find their drumming tree and get set up with your tripod then wait for them , you can even make MOCK drumming calls just google that wood pecker's sounds (mp3) and then arrange a speaker out the window to draw them to their special tree. they drum to define territory ~~~~~ Yeah Swimmer, i tried for over a year to see one up close...then as i was leaving the old place one uncharacteristically flew real close to my head on his way to the swamp across the street. i couldn't believe how big it was. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
