FIVE OF THE rescued were prisoners of war, part of the 507th Maintenance Company convoy that was ambushed in the southern city of Nasiriyah on March 23. The other two soldiers are Army servicemen captured early the morning of March 24 when their AH-64A Apache Longbow attack helicopter was shot down by Iraqis during a predawn airstrike near Najaf, NBC News reported. Excellent News!

This was great news to hear and hear over again, and remarkably, I've heard several reports that the Iraqi captors treated them quite well. I heard on the radio that in one instance the Iraqi soldiers pooled their own money to buy them medical supplies. Just goes to show you that maybe the war fighters weren't that hip on doing what the regime dictated. All the more reason to believe these people really want change.

I think what happened was, they were originally captured by the Fedajeen. 5 of the members of this company were found dead near where Lynch was rescued, with close contact gunshots to the head (tattooing or "stipling" found on the wounds which means a weapon fired within 18"). Another few of the dead reportedly had their genitals shot off. Then, the survivors were delivered to regular Iraqi troops, transported to a prison in Baghdad and began getting proper treatment.
