Looking for a good 2-piece surf rod to be used for tossing plugs for bass, when I travel back and forth from NC to RI it really gets to be a pain with a 1 piece. Please be brand and model specific. Thank you in advance.

My own favorite is Shakespear Ugly Stik. I have an 11' one that I've had for years and I just picked up a 9' one.
The 11' one has been tested on (and bested) quite a few 40"+ bass in the time I've used it.

cabelas makes an 11 ft "predator " rod.... it wieghs 2 lbs and is resonably priced at $89..... i believe it is a stugeon rod but it will toss a 3oz pt lude a country mile... real nice guides designed for braid

My 10' Quarrow GreenCountry ML1 is the balls for a a 10'er...not made anymore though. The newer version is in the Tiderunner series. Can be tiring as a plugging rod after a few hours.

Just bought a Starrods Stellar Surf 9'er,SG90IS.Can't say how good it is as I've never used it but price/warranty were crucial in my decision to buy it.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. Almost every production rod longer than 9' is two piece nowadays, because it costs and arm and a leg to ship anything longer than 9'.

All Star 1265-2 Had mine built by Saltheart. Sweet spot is 2 oz. Maxes out around 3 oz though. Nice for popping pencils.

Was also known as the Spanish Buster when offered by Hatteras Outfitters

Star Rods (http://www.seastriker.com/starrods/)

Just picked up the 8ft model of the stellar surf. Looks and feels strong, can't wait to fish it. Like you said basswipe price was tough to beat, I picked it up from the edge for 25% off.

179, What are you looking for the rod to throw, what size, ect?

For something cheap, 11ft lami surf king rated 3 to 8, rating is crazy high, I throw 1oz bucktails to 5oz grs plugs on it, think they were around 99 to 140 depending if you catch em on sale.

Tica dolphin Rods are sweet too, in that same price range.

Next step up is the st croix mojo rods, nothing but great things about those.

Then the legend by st croix.

I had two custom lamis built on the ISU blank, there awesome, for me and my style of fishing.

Really matters on what your looking to throw, where, length and price range.

There's a great rod in every price range, some better than others.

I gave my brother this rod when I got a 1205, but I loved the action on a St Croix Ben Doerr. It was not super fast but fished better than most rods I have tried. Rod is out of production and I wish I could find the same action.

Maybe we should include prices, because descriptions alone may not be a sufficient deciding factor.

Ugly stiks can run $50 - $80 depending on the length.
I doubt anyone here would go with a 15' surf rod, but you never know.....

This 2 peice Century 11 ft takes 2 to 5 oz and is some sweet. Put the k frames on it and it takes 1oz to 5 plugs comfortably.

All star 1145-2 if you can find one. Haven't used either of mine in a few seasons but they are a good 1-3 plugging rod.

What he said!

X3 - Just got my 10-6 mojo - 2-6. Took it down to the MMA yesterday to toss some different plugs. I was able to throw a 5oz bucktail literally 2/3rds to the other side.

Plugs under an ounce were not so easy to toss but still about 40 yards.

That's with a vs 200 loaded with 40lb samurai braid. The reel doesn't balance out the rod well, so I added a 5oz weighted butt cap and it made a ton of difference.

The 10' Lami Tri-flex rated 2-6 is a very good 2 piece rod. I used one for most of last season and aside from not really liking 2 piece rods I had no complaints with that rod.

I've had a 2-piece 10 foot St. Croix for many years and I really like the action and casting distance I get. It's married to a Penn 6500. However, I just don't like 2-piece rods. After a few really hard casts, the ferrel starts to twist. All of the guides are on side so it's not horrible, just irritating. I'm thinking about just epoxying the two pieces together.

st croix mojo or legend, depending on budget

as others stated, if you can find the Loomis SUR1266S this is a great rod. I love mine, but it unfortunately doesn't get fished as much as it should as I often don't need a 2 piece so my 1 piece rods get the nod.

I guarantee you that the ferrule on a Mojo won't twist on you. ;)
