View Full Version : The "It's On" early season large challenge begins!!!
Back Beach 05-04-2011, 02:52 PM Here's how to play:
1. Contest runs now until Memorial Day.
2. Largest shore caught striped bass takes the cake.
3. You must provide sufficient proof of your catch such as a photo and/or weight slip. Use a scale if you have it or tape measure to add credibility if you release the fish...no need to kill the fish for a silly plug.
4. Largest fish by weight will get a BB custom plug of your choice. In the event of a tie for weight, I'll go by length.
5. A special "Numbskull" prize will be awarded for the first fish entered...its got to be at least 16" though. :hee:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
numbskull 05-04-2011, 08:00 PM I tried tonight, but that 16' rule is a high bar for me.

Thanks Mike, should I send my bank routing # or does the millions get paid in cash?
redlite 05-05-2011, 09:40 AM Thanks Mike, should I send my bank routing # or does the millions get paid in cash?
You get one of those giant checks....
problem is that the only bank that will cash it is Zimbabwe and the size of the check is too big to bring through customs and on an airplane.......
So you get a sweet new wall hanging of "what could have been".........

zimmy 05-12-2011, 02:12 PM First time in 4 years I haven't had a fish over 40" by may 10th in my local spots. Even the scattered 30" fish that were prevalent disappeared over the last week. Herring are few and far between. I know we get the good fish earlier down here, but I sure as heck hope to hear of more fish in this thread soon. Hopefully most released :)

Very surprising for Connecticut, and I was thinking of fishing there because of the saltwater license reciprocity figured I'd get the bigger fish earlier. I hope that isn't a prelude to what is in store for Massachusetts.

I thought it was looking good two weeks ago, but I am nervous now. My fishing is limited to a narrow area this time of year so it is not necessarily representative of other places. I do know that within the group of a dozen or so guys who fish where I do and I talk with occasionally, the results have been similar. Too early to tell, but it looks more like fall in CT which has been not so great last few years.
tlapinski 05-12-2011, 07:52 PM Nice belly on the the 26 from the other night. All the fish were FAT little piggies!
Back Beach 05-13-2011, 08:51 AM nice, Toby!
Quit cheerleading and catch something, would you? :spin:
See you at the spot next week.
Nice catch Toby.
I'll do my best to be there, thanks for the invite..
i've been slamming some freshwater spawners though, but i know that doesn't count...
JohnnySaxatilis 05-14-2011, 09:03 AM First Keeper Blitz action of the season. Insane action actually:buds: My thumb is ripped up, my shoulder hurts, and my feet are sore. But I can't stop smiling. Bad picture, but we didnt wanna stop catching 35-38" screamers! BTW as soon as I have money, I'm buying stock in Sebile Lure Co. On the 8ft tica and cabopt40, these fish were a blast!!

SAUERKRAUT 05-15-2011, 06:13 PM Released. Sorry about the focus; camera probably inadvertantly on macro setting. Tonite is May 15th, and I'm sad this 34" can even qualify at this date in your Thread at this date.
The brown trout was bigger: 15-3.
gregory2327 05-15-2011, 06:38 PM That is the biggest, fattest trout I have ever seen. That thing is absolutely absurd!! Where did you catch it?
SurfCaster413 05-15-2011, 08:34 PM That is one fatty trout for sure congrats
SAUERKRAUT 05-16-2011, 01:20 PM Lake "O". Decided to mount it.

RIROCKHOUND 05-19-2011, 07:20 AM Take the laces out and I'll consider it.
I debated de-winging it and pan-frying them. supposed to be good...
the wings were thicker than fluke fillets, and the tail would have made a good self-defense weapon....

SAUERKRAUT 05-20-2011, 01:53 PM Released: ALS Tag No. 158858. I lost some sleep here. It's fun catching fish when Numby isn't too close by-- he doesn't let me hug and fondle them the way I wanna.
ProfessorM 05-20-2011, 04:50 PM Nice job Mr. Sour.
numbskull 05-20-2011, 05:28 PM Credit Larry and his BigFish Prey swimmer. He might even get a new motto out of it.

ProfessorM 05-20-2011, 07:57 PM I don't know George you keep telling me don't give him any plugs as he stinks at fishing them but I keep seeing pictures of him with nice fish.

Alan,
This is a great point. Although there's only a week left, we'll create a Sauerkraut division for the largest released fish...in fact we'll name it the "Bonds" award.
RIJIMMY 05-23-2011, 08:03 AM heres one for the saurerkraut award and one for Bigfish - his pencils slayed them the other day, outfished the other guys around me
all fish released
RIJIMMY 05-23-2011, 08:06 AM cant get my bigfish pencil pics to load.....

not "a" fish but many.
not only from the surf, but with LURES.
I dont even recognize myself in the mirror, what have I become?
Back Beach 05-23-2011, 08:39 AM Wait.. you caught a fish, from the surf?
I don't belive it either. I want to see him actually hooking/fighting/landing/releasing a surf caught fish in a series of pictures before we even consider him worthy. Plus, we need at least three witnesses.

Something certainly seems to be amiss. I decline the invite to fish with you on Friday morning and you slay them (on lures from shore, no less). Then, I go Saturday and don't even get a bump. I think it's the RIJIMMY curse.
Seriously, those are some nice fish. Congrats.
fishbones 05-23-2011, 09:04 AM Here's a terrible pic of a nice fish I released last week. Didn't get an accurate measurement because I was in a rush to get it back in the water, but it was quite a bit bigger than a 42" fish I measured earlier in the evening.
RIJIMMY 05-23-2011, 09:14 AM looks like "night of the living dead"
fishbones 05-23-2011, 09:26 AM looks like "night of the living dead"
When you're as ugly as I am, you have to do everything at night. Children and old ladies run away screaming when they see me in daylight.

rickhern 05-24-2011, 07:04 AM Yes I did. It was probably just a 15# hooked in the tail. At least that story allows me to sleep at night.

Moon and star alignment mixed w/ some toad stool and bat wings. CT is a little behind the times. Slowdown started here on the 22nd, so maybe the pattern is correct, but the exact days are off.

rickhern 06-01-2011, 10:44 AM Hey Mike, after much deliberation, I am going to have you pass this plug along to the best eel fisherman that I know and a guy who really needs to add a few plugs to his repertoire(as long as he promises to stay off my rock at the canal:love:)
rickhern 06-01-2011, 10:46 AM Of course, if he doesn't want it.....nothing over 2-1/2, I am getting a little gimpy in my old age.

SAUERKRAUT 06-02-2011, 09:07 PM Thanks, BB, for the plug recognizing the "release" category. I haven't done any better, since. In fact, ---IF...I can't catch a daybreak bass tomorrow AM when I'll be fishing with Ole' Skip at his favorite perch,---THEN...I'll be the ONLY legal resident of the state of Massachusetts NOT to catch one single fish on this whole set of tides. The black crow has landed on my shoulder. Numbskull gave me a handful of plugs to change my karma. Bonds for now, BB.
fishbones 06-03-2011, 09:44 AM Thanks, Mike! I got the plug in the mail yesterday and it looks great. I'm looking forward to fishing it. It's very generous of you to put your time and effort into something like this for the rest of us. It's much appreciated!:btu:
