fishaholic18 04-16-2003, 09:10 PM Anyone into tog fishin'? I started a couple of years ago. They are a blast to catch and taste good too. I've only fished for them in the fall with green crabs. I would like to try for them this spring. Can anyone give me info on when they'll be biting & what bait they like in the spring? And what are the regulations and size limits?
Clammer 04-16-2003, 09:20 PM worms,mussels,& crabs
go to the DEM web site for a listing of all saltwater information , on open season, sizes, & limits ///////////
bloocrab 04-19-2003, 11:05 AM They should've already started biting. I picked up a couple...a week and a half ago *shortz*, but it must have been a flooook...been dead ever since. The saying goes..."when the dandelions pop". ..so I'm sticking to that ;)
I find that in the spring, they prefer sandworms, BUT...I'm a crab-man 4-life...and have NO problems landing them on greens.
..but to answer your questions, RIGHT NOW IS A GOOD TIME TO TRY :) 1/2 doz. sandworms + 1 qt. of crabs, until you KNOW they're really in.
..as far as regulations: At the MSBA show I spoke with a DEM officer. I was told that although the regulations may be changing....they are still the same as last year. He recommended I keep checking their site for the change.
..what waters will you fishing?
fishaholic18 04-19-2003, 12:50 PM Hey Bloo, I'll be fishing in R.I. waters. Mostly in the lower Narr. bay area. I have a few spots where I did well last fall. According to the DEM website, the season starts May 1st.

..a bit of info for ya, they're a little finicky right now. Green crabs haven't interested them, Asian crabs are doing...ok, sandworms seem to be the preferred meal...
..Anyone like fish-head stew? :D
Notaro 05-05-2003, 01:12 PM hmmm, your pictures are making me jealous, bloocrab. damn, i must go tog fishing soon. hey, is a circle hook good for catching a tog? eastman told me that it would work, but i still have to set the hook because they can steal baits. i am aware of that. so if you use a circle hook, what advice do you have for me on the circle hook?
bloocrab 05-05-2003, 04:09 PM Circle Hooks = :yak5: :yak6: :yak4: :yak:
Notaro 05-05-2003, 05:11 PM so the circle hooks are ineffective for catching togs?
bloocrab 05-05-2003, 05:24 PM ..I didn't say they were ineffective...I personally DON'T care for circle hooks. I'm like setting the hook. :D
Notaro 05-05-2003, 05:26 PM oh, i get it. my bad. i misunderstood ya. not me, im not a fan of setting a hook.
bloocrab 05-13-2003, 11:52 AM Tautog are still out there in good numbers. Headed out this morning looking for Bass...ended up maxing out on blackfish in 30 minutes. The minute the tarantula hit the bottom........ BANG!!!
...GET EM' WHILE YOU CAN!! :)
Notaro 05-13-2003, 02:58 PM are they everywhere now? how long will tautog be around?
Raven 05-13-2003, 07:14 PM ummm .....was that the yellow flowers about to pop or the white seed heads about to pop.Usually i pop the tops so the white seed heads won't pop. But my neighbors goats were starting to eat trees so i popped all the dandelions up with my special dandelion popping spade and fed them all to the goats who were doing head butts over them, they liked them so much.
Now i won't know when to go fishing. But at least i made the goats day.:D
addict 05-13-2003, 07:33 PM ...especially a bloo one? :spin:
Sunday, long island sound near mt. sinai. They were biting like porgies for a while.
