Went to the south coast area this morning throwing surface plugs from dawn to 8 o'clock and caught all bluefish (5-8lbs), not a hint of a bass. Last year the bluefish showed up in large numbers on May 12 so I guess they are pretty much on schedule. I am more concerned with the absence of school bass but I will give it a while as this was my first time out.
