I've been doing pretty well actually as far as quantity goes.I've caught bass on all sides and ends of Aquidneck Island.Had a great night last night fishing a spot on the north end.

Biggest so far have been in that mid to high 20" range.Bigger any minute now!

Pretty good amounts of fish, both small and keeper size in my usual spring locations.

Water up here is real cloudy and churned up. There have been some bass and mackeral chasing sea herring in the harbor during the evenings though. They have occasionally been reachable from shore near low.

Schoolies in the Annisquam some mackerel but scarce. Big fish over 38 inches should be here by the 21st, hoping it holds true. :)

Had an evening earlier in the week with acres of bass feeding on silversides (very small ones) right along the shore in a popular local spot. Fish were mixed size and super-focused on the feed and I only fooled one around 27" on a small metal-lip swimmer. The very next evening the feed was back but this time were being harrassed by a huge school of sea herring. Had never seen such large herring right on shore. Has some some fun jigging them up. JackK even fooled one with the fly-rod. Did foul-hook a schoolie with the diamond jig- a plump fish indeed. Each night since then has featured lotsa bird activity but mostly out-of-casting-range. All the action has been just before dark this week. Tried this morning but it was casting practice.

As mentioned, it should only get better by the day going forward. :soon:

Next time you see them on silversides try one of Joes small Po-Jees with an undressed hook.Works everytime!

I was all over Narr Bay this morning. Only marked a few fish in Warwick Cove and between Prudence and Patience Island. No runs, no hits and no one got on.

I thought about posing/posting the obligatory question about how-to fool a feed-focused bass. The answers/advice are many from teasers to swim shads to tins to out-of-the-box thinking like huge wooden plugs. We threw the bag at them but they wanted almost none of it. It was acually difficult to even fish the edges/outskirts of the school as there were so many bass and so much feed. Funny thing about this occurance was that it kept going well after dark with lotsa slashing/surfacing bass but it was not an all-out washing-machine-like frenzy. It was frustrating for sure- Kevin even compared it to fishing a worm hatch (something I have never done).

(unlike last year)
ice out here was 3 weeks late
the rains (of significance) have just begun and are LATE :uhuh:

Yup, upper Buzzards Bay has been loaded with bait for a couple weeks now. Smaller ones last week and larger ones this week (yesterday morning).

Canal is heating up and regardless of weather this week, the moon tides will bring some top water action on the early tides.

Nice job Mike. Narr Bay is dead so far. Small fish every other day.

I did find fish at the Canal late yesterday though.

That's why I didn't call you yesterday. It was like "The Silent Spring". I marked 1/2 dozen fish in Warwick Cove and nothing from there on, and I roamed around for 2 hours.

starting off like last year. Cant say theres no bait. lots of small baitfish and the squid run seems decent. Maybe its just behind. Glad to see other guys getting some fish. Lets hope it keeps up.

The Merrimack is slowly coming to life, I got my first fish May 2... the fish are getting bigger each day., I've been getting most of them from the docks.... I've not put the boat on the slip... in case I wanted to chase cod to the south... I'll put her in her summer home this week...

Jimmy, any chance of you getting out of work a little early mid week? I'm hoping to head out around 5:30pm or so and would welcome your company.

Definitely has the feel of a repeat of last year. Hopefully that won't be the case. Marking some bunker or herring here and there and some occasional fish. Plenty for stripers to eat if more decide to show up. Squid, silversides, etc.

Friday had a few schools of fish moving around and fish were caught.

Other then that, I'm already fishing RI Sound instead.

Got my first of the year on Saturday, but it was slow and I think this horrible weather has something to do with things being a tad late, in two weeks, they wil be here!
