I'm pretty sure every move we made was a big circle back to the same spot. :)3 Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device striperman36 05-15-2011, 07:05 PM Thanks Niko for setting this up. If EelSkimmer hadn't brought the banana we probably would have caught more fish. keeperreaper 05-15-2011, 07:17 PM Great time today. Paul, thanks for setting this up. Rob Rockcrawler 05-15-2011, 07:38 PM Great time. Fillets are all bagged up for delivery tomorrow. Im still feeling like im on the boat, swaying back and forth, almost took a spill in the shower. striperman36 05-15-2011, 07:43 PM too funny, it was pretty flat Piscator 05-15-2011, 08:17 PM Paul, Thanks again. Also, thanks for staying awake to whole ride up AND back! It was a great day overall. John, Thanks for the S-B.com stickers. They will be well served. Derek, Those brownies were awesome. Wish I had one with dinner Nice meeting some new guys too.Wish I met more of you. Came home and cooked up some fresh Haddock. Wow, was it delicious (Paul, still can't believe you don't eat this stuff)!!! The Dad Fisherman 05-16-2011, 04:57 AM That's It!!!!! A Bunch of guys sleeping? Where's the Fish Porn? Any Pics of some Fish? :hee: BigFish 05-16-2011, 05:01 AM I think they stopped at a fish market on the way home!:jump1: PRBuzz 05-16-2011, 05:37 AM It was a good S-B.com trip, nice meeting more S-B finatics and thanks to the FishOn, Zacs, and Niko for their work in putting this together however back to Stellwagon ground fishing for me! The Cove/Jeffries surely didn't hold up to it's reputation. Paul, Thanks for the plug for 1st fish boated in the stern! Glad it didn't have to be a keeper to qualify.:) Rappin Mikey 05-16-2011, 06:34 AM How long did my brother make it before he passed out or fell down?? Sea Dangles 05-16-2011, 06:54 AM He was locked in the bathroom all day Nacho Libre. JohnR 05-16-2011, 07:08 AM :fishslap: Yes, 90 minutes of sleep in the previous 32 hours was not cutting it on the way back from the slamzany cod fishing we accomplished :tooth: That's It!!!!! A Bunch of guys sleeping? See note above. It was a good S-B.com trip, nice meeting more S-B finatics and thanks to the FishOn, Zacs, and Niko for their work in putting this together however back to Stellwagon ground fishing for me! The Cove/Jeffries surely didn't hold up to it's reputation. Well said! Thank you gents for putting this all on together :btu: Great time & Crew. Only missing: large numbers of fish & splash pants. How long did my brother make it before he passed out or fell down?? I believe he made the whole trip upright :btu: Nobody :yak5: johnny ducketts 05-16-2011, 07:15 AM no one tossed JackK over, wow.. I'm shocked! stripercrazy 05-16-2011, 07:39 AM had a great time...allways a lot of laughts....thanks to the people who put it together JohnR 05-16-2011, 07:46 AM no one tossed JackK over, wow.. I'm shocked! We made an effort to deny his martydom. Clearly, walking around with the Phillies cap on, he wanted us to toss him over the rail. So rather than to be goaded in, we pretty much ignored him all the way up until he had a tantrum on the deck stripped down to the spidey underoos... The Dad Fisherman 05-16-2011, 08:09 AM We made an effort to deny his martydom. Clearly, walking around with the Phillies cap on, he wanted us to toss him over the rail. So rather than to be goaded in, we pretty much ignored him all the way up until he had a tantrum on the deck stripped down to the spidey underoos... Did he then break into a a chorus of the Eagles Fight Song......There's a visual. RIJIMMY 05-16-2011, 08:12 AM I dont see a report or pics, come on guys, I;d love to hear how it went and see some pics of fish (or at least fishing) JackK 05-16-2011, 08:16 AM :uhuh: In all seriousness, I had a blast... Thanks to everyone for getting this all together. Good to meet some new people and catch up with others. Bummer that the fish didn't cooperate, but at least most people went home with something. I'm going to enjoy my $120 haddock tonight :jump1: Big congrats to SM36... While he still hasn't proved that he can jig at all, he did prove that he can chuck a clam with the best of them!! JohnR 05-16-2011, 08:28 AM I dont see a report or pics, come on guys, I;d love to hear how it went and see some pics of fish (or at least fishing) Reports are - fishing was slow: Some Cod, Haddock, Pollock came over the rail into the boat. Nothing big. Striperman36 had the biggest Cod. John Pollock almost joined his kin on the ocean side of the rail :hihi: Amazingly, I think only one Dogfish was caught - heard but did not see. Some flounder and occasional wolffish, and cusk came up as well. iamskippy 05-16-2011, 09:36 AM John Pollock almost joined his kin on the ocean side of the rail :hihi: LOL he came to our side to toss his banana peel :wall: Great day, love meeting everyone, some again and some new Zacs thanks for the ride and the conversation. John thanks for the S-B stickers as well. and to the gentlemen on my rail. " Fish em long and dangly!" freebie 05-16-2011, 11:36 AM PSS: the other one I have frozen is even bigger! your gonna need it...and I always say, if you're not cheating you're not trying hard enough.... freebie 05-16-2011, 11:39 AM Reports are - fishing was slow: Some Cod, Haddock, Pollock came over the rail into the boat. Nothing big. Striperman36 had the biggest Cod. John Pollock almost joined his kin on the ocean side of the rail :hihi: Amazingly, I think only one Dogfish was caught - heard but did not see. Some flounder and occasional wolffish, and cusk came up as well. Mr Pollock was serious bad luck. He stood next to me for a while and the fish stopped biting. I don't think he was three steps away from me heading into the cabin and the bite started again. Pretty sure someone up the bow sent him back to try and ruin the great fishing us stern guys were sharing. zacs 05-16-2011, 11:43 AM I also had a great trip. Fishing could have been better, but I went home with a decent bag of haddock fillets, so I can't complain too much. Unfortunately, the 3 or 4 people that I had promised fish to aren't so lucky. Striperman36 thanks for the flounder fillets! BrianS is a jigging machine. I think he might be the only person on the boat that didn't switch to bait once. And it paid off with the second largest cod... but he missed the collection for the pool :( We had a good group of fishermen on the bow. Much superior fishermen to the slackers in the stern. The crowd on the stbd side was kept entertained by Sea Dangles running commentary. iamskippy bought dinner at Kelly's on the way home (thanks bro!). I ate way too much, and combined with the two 5hr energy i guzzled for the drive, it made for some pretty bad indigestion all night and this morning... feeling better now. Can't wait for a fish fry tonight!!! RickBomba 05-16-2011, 11:46 AM Nice to see everybody. I had a really good time. I'm one sore puppy today, though! ThrowingTimber 05-16-2011, 11:57 AM Thanks to niko and Zac for the trip planning. Had a good time nice meeting some new folks and always nice catching up with others. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device zacs 05-16-2011, 12:02 PM i can't take credit for any planning, i just helped keep some names straight. One thing that always sucks at these type of things is you meet so many people it is hard to keep faces/real-name/screen-name straight. especially when pretty much everyone is wearing orange slickers... JohnR 05-16-2011, 12:10 PM especially when pretty much everyone is wearing orange slickers... Almost everyone :tooth: Thanks to Zac for driving! Skippy for Kelly's (me must have been the smalliest in there) and SBurnsey for the jig rod loan ;) eelskimmer 05-16-2011, 12:21 PM Next year it is going to take some serious bribe money to make sure I do not bring a banana on board. And even more serious money to keep me home. I can be vindictive. Wait I take that back, Sea Dangles was upwind of me all day and he was not only vindictive but LOL at every blast. The yuppie swine. :fury: PRBuzz 05-16-2011, 12:28 PM One thing that always sucks at these type of things is you meet so many people it is hard to keep faces/real-name/screen-name straight. especially when pretty much everyone is wearing orange slickers... Since there seems to be only a single photo, I put names on the people I know, sorry I didn't meet the yellow slicker! I'll excuse people in the future if they can only ID me from the back of my head. Good luck, I'm usually wearing a hat.:) zacs 05-16-2011, 12:38 PM that is eddie the fish pimp, aka stripercrazy RIJIMMY 05-16-2011, 12:44 PM hard to tell without the purple hat Goose 05-16-2011, 03:39 PM I hadn't been on a S-B shindig in a long time, even though the bite was slow I had great time. Thanks to the guys who made it happen. I thought the crew of old salts were patience loving and understanding kind and forgiving. Those @$%&*() couldn't put me on a dam keeper cod!!!! long and dangly long and dangly striperman36 05-16-2011, 05:18 PM they should have thrown Derrick off the stern. Rob Rockcrawler 05-16-2011, 05:28 PM I was surprised nobody chummed. I wanted to give a plug to the first whi got green but it never happened. The plug went to the young kid on the boat. I wish i had a set up like he was using when i was his age. Dad's doing a good job with him. ShipWrecked 05-16-2011, 08:09 PM [QUOTE=iamskippy;858770]LOL he came to our side to toss his banana peel :wall: Great day, love meeting everyone, some again and some new Zacs thanks for the ride and the conversation. I said to the mate, "don't ruin it for me, let me have a few minutes and a few tugs. It feels good" Fish On 05-18-2011, 12:24 AM I had a great time Sunday! Really enjoyed seeing some of the guys that I’ve met over the years and meeting some new ones. I definitely want to do the S-B canyon trip if we can pull it together. Would also be interested in trying the cod again next year. Niko, Zacs, DerekL, JackK it was a pleasure meeting you guys and talking fish. JohnR thanks for the tips on my iPhone! Niko and Zacs, thanks for all the efforts to pull the trip together. Great job! Trip report card (scale of 1-10) Weather: 4 (Better wet than rough. Would rather be damp than sick) Cod Fishing: 1 (Where were they?) Haddock fishing: 7 (saved the day) The Challenger: 8 (smooth ride, comfortable cabin, clean and well kept) Mate Bob: 9 (the guy was right there when you needed him) DerekL’s knife sharpener: 10 (gotta get me one of those!) Best decision of the day: 7 (Sticking with bait) Worst decision of the day:0 (Making that last move. Never leave fish to drive 30 minutes to fish for only another 20 minutes. Tough way to end the day.) S-B group: 11+ (Fishing with these guys was by far the best part of the trip!) jimmy z 05-18-2011, 03:57 AM It sounds like all had a good time, even though a lot of fish weren't caught. The Dad Fisherman 05-18-2011, 05:10 AM How'd you guys do on the Haddock?....I'd seriously rather catch those then cod myself.... PRBuzz 05-18-2011, 08:53 AM That's It!!!!! A Bunch of guys sleeping? Where's the Fish Porn? Any Pics of some Fish? :hee: Can't post any fish porn pics: would be spot burning! Piscator 05-18-2011, 10:39 AM Every time I was about to pull out the camera, it was raining too hard. zacs 05-18-2011, 10:57 AM FishOn, that is a great re-cap! Great to talk meet and chat. You also deserve kudos on the organizational front. Haddock fishing was pretty decent, actually, with delicious results. I wish I could catch this fish all the time, because my kids would eat way more fish if I did!!! Flounder was also delicious. dusted with flour and seared in butter... oh man Bill, not sure why you would give that one away, but my family thanks you! Yours plus mine equaled a flounder dinner for the Fam last night. Rest of the fish (not much) is in the freezer now. RE: No Pics - I have a few from inside the cabin, but when fishing, my camera/phone were under layers of rain gear, and the weather was just to wet and raw to consider breaking them out for pics... sorry... PRBuzz 05-18-2011, 11:23 AM FishOn, that is a great re-cap! Haddock fishing was pretty decent, actually, with delicious results. I wish I could catch this fish all the time, because my kids would eat way more fish if I did!!! I think the "7" rating is highly biased by the quality of the haddock after one of those fillets hit the mouth, can't argue that one, but the quality of fishing for haddock rates a 4-5. To fish for 8hrs and pull up as few fish as we did doesn't rate a 7! striperman36 05-18-2011, 03:21 PM FishOn, that is a great re-cap! Great to talk meet and chat. RE: No Pics - I have a few from inside the cabin, but when fishing, my camera/phone were under layers of rain gear, and the weather was just to wet and raw to consider breaking them out for pics... sorry... I just had my 3rd Burnt End Lunch. I am outta town till 6/10. niko 05-18-2011, 07:31 PM fish on did a bunch of the organizing - thanks keith. next year we can try stellwagen w/ the viking out of quincy or capt john out of plymouth. Fish On 05-18-2011, 08:24 PM Please don't mention it guys. I really only made a couple phone calls. I just love to fish. What made this trip was all the guys that signed up, paid and filled the trip in only a few weeks. Great effort! I was hoping that we would see some of the same cod fishing as these guys have experienced in late May/early June over the past several years. The cod in those fishing reports are huge. With hindsight it seems as though the cod may have been better on Stellwagon for this trip. I'm up for that next year Niko. My family has always loved to eat haddock so taking home 9 keepers between the two of us was considered a very happy result. I've been eating haddock since Sunday and have one cooked fillet leftover in the fridge. Not one made it to the freezer. Still, I really wanted to crank up my first 40 lb cod from 200 feet....still itching to do that. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
