Well I went out today and tried some new stuff. First up to bat was my Custom Allstar 1209 wrapped spinning by Saltheart. It is a beautiful stick, that cast extremely well. I paired it up with a Mitchell Nautil 7500, 65lb Spiderwire Stealth, and a Breakaway Cannon casting trigger. The Spiderwire Stealth was great coming off the spool. I would recommend that if you put it on a spinner to cast a few short casts adding distance with each one. This will help later alllowing the line to peel off the reel effortlessly. If you are using braid, and throwing heavy stuff, let me recommend the Breakaway Cannon. It was very easy to use, and the braid comes off the trigger very smooth. The Nautil 7500 is a great reel. I got the Yellow one. If you get a Nautil get the yellow ones. At the bottom of the reel stem is a rubber gromet. Remove it with a pair of needle nose, and there are 2 allen head screws. Tighten the screws with a metric allen wrench before using the reel. I take one screw out, put a drop of LocTite on it, and put it back in. Then do the same to the other one. If you do this make sure you DO NOT TAKE BOTH SCREWS OUT AT THE SAME TIME, leave one in do one then the other.

Next on the menu was a Rainshadow 1088 wrapped as a spinner by Goose. I paired this rod up with a Nautil 6500. This rod also cast extremely well. It is also very beautiful to look at. It is going to be a nice eeling, plugging rod.

Next was 65lb Spiderwire Stealth used on an ABU 7000 BigGame CL. All I can say is the stuff flows smoothly off the reel. It did not get caught or hung up between the sideplate, and the spool.

I give the stealth 2 thumbs up for castability on conventional, and spinning reels. We shall see how well it performs, and it's durability in a couple of months.

I also got a new plug bag. It is a plano bag model #3344-10. It has a double row insert. The insert has openings at the bottom to allow water to drain from them. The bottom of the bag is mesh this also allows drainage. It has a large flap that velcro shut, a pocket on each end, and a larger pocket on the front, that is also mesh bottomed. I have two of these bags, one I bought about a month ago, and one my wife bought meon her own for my birthday this weekend.

That is all my friends, if you have anythig to add about these products feel free. Also if you have tried something new recently, lets us know.

never had a problem all day.very smooth and effortless casting ,no fish, but was a nice day see some suds for a change.
two thumbs up. for both the rod and the stealth.

Bill, sounds like you had a good winter, lots of new toys:D . I just ordered my wife a lami xra 1321. Now I ..I mean she has a new toy too. Worked out good for me too, I don't own one of these yet. Feels like it weighs half of my 1322. And it is in conventional to boot.

ok, not saltwater but I did try some new firetiger color 2 inch wildeyes lures while in Florida recently and the largemouth bass loved em. I don't fish freshwater much but since there was a sizable pond in front of where I was staying I decided to pick up some rubba and give it whirl. The bass loved these things but the smaller fish like the sunfish and blugills kept biting the tails off (since they can't take the whole thing in their small mouths) thus rendering them useless. Now I hooked a number of very sizable largemouths and they kept getting off even after fighting them a while. I am not sure what it is about them but a couple of these fish should not have got off at least if fishing a rubba worm texas style they would not have. Maybe it is the small hook size or the angle of the eye in relation to the hook shaft or a combination there of. Overall they are certainly effective but got to figure out how to keep the fish on. Maybe sharpen the hooks more.

Funny thing about this freshwater pond was it was only dug about four years ago tops and I was catching bass to four pounds with big beer bellys. Fun stuff.

Hope to test some saltwater stuff soon.

Hallow Billy,
I have one of the blue ones; did I do the wrong thing. Do you think the yellow 7500's are that much better?
Thanks for the info on the allen screws, though.
I'm trying the free spiderwire on the 965, hope it makes me cast better.
Later,
Rick

Denis thanks for the report on the 1087, I want one of those.

Jeff everyone swears by those wildeyes, but I have never had any luck with them. Maybe sharpening the hooks like you said.

Newell, I got a nice Beretta over/under that way. :D

Rick is it a black one, or did you get a liveliner reel? The liveliner is blue I think, they don't have the screws. I have had no experience with those yet.

CSK, I really was'nt fishing, I just went down the street to Nut Island in Quincy to try out some equipment. There were 2 large barges anchored up in the channel down there, and 4 tugboats as well. I believe they are there for the new gasline from Weymouth to northern parts. I wonder what kind of effect this is going to have on the fishing.

the stealth is nice. Only problem was cutting the stuff with nail clippers, stuff is tuff.

I tried out my abu c3 7000 yesterday with some #35 cortland black spot, its not really a super line just thinner diameter than green spot, just not as thin as others. i like it. casts very nice, even though i was using my rod for my 6500 and trying out pikies and dannys to test their swimming, and into a prettys bad windy. no prob backlashing either. once i finish my rod ill be all set.

specialist-

Just tighten the screws and use it, if it breaks send it back to PureFishing, and tell them you want a yellow one. The reels have a two year warranty.

I have a black 7500--I picked it up from a mail order source Down Under for less than $100 US. I've had it for 2 years, used heavily in current, no problems.

I think most of the Nautil problems are with the 6500 model.

New toy this year---factory XRA 1205 one piece spinner (discontinued factory model) picked up for a song. Goes real nice with the 1205. Pac Bay guides, but for what I paid, when the insert(s) start to fail, I'll rewrap it with Fujis and space them better ;)

Christian I am glad you like the Danny. I have not tried the plugs out yet, soon though.

Bloo thanks, I got one of those Stradic 5000 also. I spooled one spool with 14lb fireline, thother with 15lb BigGame. I am going to head out saturday with my friend and his son. First schoolie excursion of the year.

Mike I think if everyone checks the screws periodically they will be alright. Nice score for under 100 us.
