Luckily I never blew a motor except on an old lawnmower. Its almost always do to a failure in the lube system (oil not getting where its needed).

What got yours?

That sucks Fred.. any warrantee left?.. (for some reason I seem to remember you having a newish truck??)

how many miles??

post 04 chev/gmc by chance? reason I ask this is I almost pulled the trigger recently on a 06 2500hd...but was talked out of it...by an old freind who is a chev dealer mechanic..he told me to stay away from any bowtie made after 04, and really avoid any made after 06, ...i was shocked to hear that from him!

That's interesting someone told you to stay away. I for one see it every day, I think the new GM powertrains are better than ever. Granted every manufacturer has some issues, but I really think they are way better. 07 they started with a 5year 100k warranty on the powertrain, would they do this if the engines were no good? Of course not. We have seen a few with cam/lifter issues but other than that they have been pretty good. I've been working on them most of my life too. GM has really stepped up.

not trying to start a chevy/dodge/ford/import truck war.. was just wondering too.. he's been a chevy dealer lead tech for a while.. his take is he is seeing a lot of cheapened stuff since the money crunch hit gm coporate, lot of engine/warranty issues, and he feels that while they took the bailout, and are paying the interest, the comebacks on the warranty is what will eventually croak them, due to the cheaper parts used.. I don't know nothing..just was looking for his opnion when I was shopping.. my take is they are all junk now.

I look longingly at the rustfree truck . com site and think ..mid 70's rust free truck, dump some dough into it ..and have a REAL truck again...but I am a dinosaur at heart.

but..when I looked at that 06, I was open minded..but wanted to talk to this guy, seeing as he is a long time chevy tech..and like I said was shocked at his opinion..especially for all the years of his giving me crap at not still driving one...since i sold my 79 K10...all them years ago.

Guys right about the cheapening.

My 06 gmc has had SO FAR.....

EGR valve
Lower radiator hose
rear driveshaft u joints
both front tie rod ends (NON EFFIN GREASEABLE)
right front wheel bearings
2 glow plugs (gee wonder why...there was a tsb for the computer improperly stressing the glowplugs-THAT should have been covered under warranty)

It's got under 50k miles. It's seen very little use during the last 3 summers.

I'm probably not buying gm again. Looking to replace the envoy....we just dumped 800 into it for a water pump and electronic fan clutch....eff me I can't make money that fast.
