Man born without arms, legs to swim across Chesapeake Bay

WASHINGTON - A Pennsylvania man born without arms or legs will compete in the 4.4 mile Great Chesapeake Bay Swim on June 12.

This is Craig Dietz' first attempt to cross the Chesapeake Bay. More than 600 swimmers will compete in the 20th Annual Great Chesapeake Bay Swim, the country's premier open water distance swim.

The swim begins at Sandy Point State Park and finishes at the small sandy beach adjacent to Hemingway's Restaurant and the Bay Bridge Marina on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

Despite being born without limbs, Dietz participates in many sports, including bowling, hunting, fishing, and skiing. Dietz has a passion for open-water swimming, competing in several open-water swims and triathlon relays.

His longest swim to date was two miles.
