IPA is defnitely my favorite style of beer. Here are my current top 10. I'm sure there are a few great ones I'm missing and need to try. What do you guys like?

Victory Hop Devil
Dogfish 60 Minute
Mayflower IPA
Rogue Yellow Snow
Goose Island
Southern Tier Unearthly
Ipswich
Stone
Berkshire Lost Sailor- For some reason I've found this one to be twice as good on tap. Maybe it's the freshness but it was a little too malty last time I had it bottled. Can't argue witht the growlers though!

Harpoon get's an honorable mention as a less expensive option and great in a frozen glass on a hot summer day.

If you want another really good one just for varieties sake: Stone IPA, (edit) oh you got that one on ur list!

I tried a Stone IPA yesterday that had some Belgian flair and characteristics in it yesterday. It's supposed to be a blend of IPA and a belgian beer. You might want to give that a try.

You got some recommendations for non american IPA's? Did know they existed really. I guess they should since the beer style didn't originate in the US but I don't see them.

I've never had a Belgian IPA that I liked...they just always seem wrong.

Well, the "American" tag usually just denotes a slightly kicked up IPA. For a classic English IPA I'd go with Sam Smiths or perhaps Fullers.

Here's a list of what Beeradvocate considers to be English variants, although most of these people would just regular IPA. The imports are much softer on the pallet.

English India Pale Ale (IPA) - BeerAdvocate (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/style/150)

All good, and IPA's are definitely a personal preference thing (for the hoppy goodness). I would add Blind Pig up near the top of the list, and others would put it way at the top. Harpoon Leviathon IPA is great when you can get your hands on 'em. I tend to prefer the 90 minute to the 60's, but not every day. Third Rail IPA just for the name alone.

Bass is obvious suggestion but you already know that. Ipa was developed in Britain when they colonized India. More hops + more alcohol preserved it for the long transport to India by sea for the troops.

If I remember ill bring you some of the Baxter on Wednesday.

Not a big IPA fan but last last while out with the lady I asked her to grab me a beer as I was in a good game of pool and she came back with a IPA called ACME. Gotta say best IPA ive ever tasted. Pretty sure it was a India pale ale from California. If you come across it give it a try!

One thing you can try....when you see a brew mentioned that you want to try, look up the brewers web page...lots of time they list the stores that carry their stuff.

I do it quite often when I'm looking for beers.

a little over my head in this forum... I like beer, and I love IPA's, and I try a lot of different ones, but don't have the vocabulary to describe the taste... Lee's market here in Westport has quite a selection, and I'm betting I could find a lot of these brands in their "unchilled" display section, but since I tend to buy beer as I drink it I am usually pulling from the cooler. From that perspective, I will say my current favorite is Long Trail, and I also like Harpoon... I haven't tried any of those beers that come in a wine bottle.... got to find out what I'm missing one of these days. When I think about it, it's really because I never have the right "situation". (a nice setting, friends to share with etc.) My GF and I both work nights (for example, last night, tonight, and so on) so we never host and rarely attend any summer goodness. 95% of the beer I drink is at home, alone, at 8 in the morning...:wall:

Before you go buying the IPAs in the 750ml bottles, know that most of them are small batch or specialty IPAs, and are usually more "extreme" than most. Your best bet is to hit a good restaurant/bar with a lot of taps or an extensive bottle menu, and try a few different ones.

So, is it just me or does it seem like the left coast has a significant corner on the top American IPA brews? There are a few from here and there, but most seem to come from far far away, and can be hard and/or expensive to come by. Comes mostly from scanning the BA site.

Spent the weekend and a couple extra enjoying DFH 90s at the request of my friend from Kansas that cannot get 'em there. Very good, and yes, they are from Delaware. Just an idle curiosity about more coming from the other coast. That and an ongoing quest to find a reasonable way to get them here. Maybe I can find someone that wants to trade 90's for Pigs.

Pliny the elder is spoken about in hushed tones in beer halls around here. My buddy Bev is a beer freak and got me a bottle. It will blow your mind! Nebe doesnt lie. Really really hard to get though.

Maine Beer Co. Makes one called Lunch. Actually named after a whale that shows up every summer off the maine coast with a bite taken out of one of its fins. So they named it lunch, anyways, its absolutely amazing. Grab it if you see one of the not quite 22oz bottles with an unassuming white label.

I agree with a few of the other posters about the Stone Ruination. Really good if you like the high alcohol IPA's. they have it on draft at Sunset in Brighton. Watch out! go down a little too smooth on draft.

Green Flash is good stuff and it seems like Green Flash is everywhere in MA now, but not so much in CT. Looks like an East coast brewery is coming to VA which should help that situation.

Spent some time in North Hampton this week and found this

Le Freak™
Ale

An ‘out of the box’ modern ale crafted by converging two beer styles, Belgian Trippel and American Imperial IPA. Dry-Hopped and Bottle-Conditioned – it’s a zesty brew with enticing American hop and fruity Belgian yeast aromatics.

I liked it, but definitely not your everyday IPA.

Great beer spot in that neck of the woods as well. Good foodie spot too.

Finally doing VT in May. Mapping the course out now. Lawson's, Hill Farmstead, Alchemist and anything in between!

Not going through the 5 pages but I just had some Racer 5 over the weekend. NICE and hoppy that packs a punch.. Recommend giving it a try if you see it.

Pleasantly surprised with Newburyport brewing company greenhead ipa right out of the can. Very good. Good pop at 7.2% but not overpowering.

Sixpoint Resin, sold in cans / 4pack is excellent 9.1% abv, 103IBU surprisingly smooth for alc. content. I recommend this beer.

What I recommend staying away from completely is Green Flash Brewing Co's, Rayon Vert. it is a Belgian style Pale Ale that tastes like rotten bananas. Unfit for human consumption.
