You're going to actually start fishing again? I'll try to help out because you might be shocked by some of the changes that have happened in fishing since you've been on hiatus.

1. Super lines - there are now new lines called braid that are thinner than monofilament and have less memory and much less stretch.
2. Rods - there are new rods on the market that are much lighter and stronger than the old fiberglass blanks you used to use. You should check them out.
3. Reels - this one is going to be hard to believe, but there are now reels on the market desigend just for surf fishing. They can be dunked in the water or dropped in the sand and won't seize up or stop working.
4. Lures - There's more to fishing than just throwing a hook with bait out in the water and waiting. There are hundreds, if not thousands of lures for saltwater fishing now available. There are wooden plugs with fancy paint jobs, plastic plugs that look like wooden plugs but are more durable and even soft rubber lures that look like eels or baitfish. There are endless possibilities out there for you.
5. Waders and boots - You can toss out the old heavy rubber chest waders you wore when you last fished. There are now waders made from a breathable fabric that are comfortable and lightweight. And you can buy boots that are not attached to the waders! And you can even get little metal spikes to keep you from falling when you'r fishing from rocks. Check out the thread in the main forum about alternatives to Korkers.

I'll leave it at that for now since I don't want to overload you with all this "new" technology. Good luck and I hope you catch a keeper! By the way, the legal size to keep a striper is no longer 16 inches. It's 28 inches and you can only keep 2.
