I was out yakking Saturday and Sunday morning......thought sure the boat traffic would have been epic??? It could not have been more peaceful and quiet!!! Totally shocked there were not folks out and I mean we had the mouth of the North River and Duxbury Bay almost to ourselves until we left at noon???? Is it just that folks are not getting out because of gas prices??? Any thoughts??

Yes. Lot's of people getting out. We went out of Green Harbor Saturday afternoon/evening and there were lots of open parking spaces.
The other thought is that people figure it's gonna be a zoo with lots of yahoo's, so they didn't go near the boat ramps.
People are broke.. Newport used to be an absolute ZOO in the harbor, along fort adams and out to castle hill.. now, all you see is boats at the dock and at the mooring and a fraction of the boat traffic of the 'good ol days' that you used to see...

Brewers, Winsted and my marina in Warwick Cove were particularly empty of the big boats. I think a lot of them went to the Block. I was in EG yesterday morning about 8 and there was virtually no boat traffic at all.

There was almost no one along the Elizabeths Mon AM @ 7-730. Puzzling, but nice.
we went to the (usually) most crowded jetty on LI over the weekend expecting a zoo. Ended up all alone with no one in sight.
Except mosquitoes,,,,,millions of those

Yesterday was jammed at the Spit... Typical 4th.

I guess tapping the federal oil reserves either didn't work, or wasn't done soon enough to lower fuel prices to where people would choose between boating for the weekend or eating for the month?
I wouldn't complain, because the next time you head out, you'll probably be elbow to arsehole with every boater in the tri-state area.
I relish the times when the boat traffic is light to non-existent, because it mean any fish you encounter won't be spooked by the power boaters and jetskiers that you will undoubtedlt come across on ANY body of water.
I was kayaking on Winnipesaukee yesterday morning.
Hit the lake at 5:30 am and left around 9:00 when the steady parade of party-boaters started arriving.
It was a beautiful morning and I did get a couple of fish too!
