Around 11:00 am, yesterday, thieves broke into a couple of cars. Mine parked right next to one that was broken into. PO said it is a very common occurence, day or night, during the summer, all along Gansett. Limit what you carry.

Terrible...just when those areas should produce large. Why can't scum like these crooks be the ones that slip into the water and meet their maker?

Sucks. I park a long ways from where I fish in gansett. Never worried about it before, but now it will always be in the back of my mind...

Iamskippy- be careful at Black Point. before they built the (somewhat) new parking lot, that spot was notorious for break-ins...

Happens every year from July to October. Limit what you carry, no extra gear in the truck/car.

Deep hole is another spot they target. Pretty much all the spots along rte 1 from the coast guard house to pt Jude light.

Sucks man, I was lucky enough to be car number 7 at deep hole a few years back, car #6 had an alarm an scared them off.

Also tons and tons of surfboards being stolen.

Balls that sucks, keep an eye out on CL for your gear and spread the word what you lost. Chances are the junkies will try to sell it back to the same people they stole from.

So true. Years ago when the lot was first built Scotty Slocum had his truck broken into. He smoked at the time and they took a carton of his butts. Left the plugs but busted all his windows.

You would think that the more remote the spot and the more off hours the time that you would be safer. In fact the opposite is true. These guys have learned that there will be valuable things in cars parked in Timbuktu and that at 4 AM , the cars owner will be waistdeep in water 1/2 a mile away.

Yes the worst crime is breaking the $300 window to steal the $20 walkman.

Fake person in the back and fogged windows isn't a bad idea.:)

I hope someone catches these scuzz buckets and gives them what they deserve.

Do they still make walkmans?

Wish they would put in a web cam like they have at the wall in Narragansett that might help. When i fished Pt. Judith light at sunrise that morning in the fog, i felt uneasy to venture to far to the light house, when i saw a vehicle pull in then leave only to return again. How can you enjoy a morning in the surf with the worry of a dirt bag out there like that.

PO said no place is safe including Black Point, day or night. Best to not leave anything of value within view.

And those are nice areas, I had a bag containing hundreds of plugs and tools snatched in broad daylight while I was busy baiting snapper, sorry, skipjack hooks for my grandchildren on a crowded pier 5 two years ago and nobody saw nuttin.

I was down there last year and a town cop warned me about it. He said all i could do was lock my door. That will deter most of them, but if they want what ya got the windows are going. This has been a problem down there for many many years, i wonder if its the same group of A-Holes doing it. A sting might break up the ring of people doing it, atleast for a while.

I live in a condo and my car along with at least 20 more were broken into a few months back. All they took were GPS and Radars, left my Costas and dive watch sitting on the seat after they tossed it looking for through the console. Lock my doors everywhere now and leave nithing but junk in the console and glovey

We were at Black Point on Saturday night after midnight. Bunch of kids having a party on the beach and one other fisherman. I was really surprised to bump into an environmental officer on our way out. Kinda nice to see him there doing his thing at 2:30 in the morning.

I guess it depends on what you have that is VISIBLE, and what the "catch of the day" will be with these low-life theives.
By "catch of the day", I mean what will bring the most money the fastest, because these crime are typically just to fund their next drug installment in their "die as you go" plan!

Maybe a sting operation is in order, only not the police organized version, but a fisherman's revenge kind! Hey, crabs and lobsters have to eat too!
Seriously, a REAL sting operation in various locales could help keep the scumbags at bay!

A few years back the SK police had a cruiser parked in the median near the East Matunuck exit with a life size inflatable George Bush doll behind the wheel. I slowed down when I saw it...:jump:
