View Full Version : Woodchuck witless protection program
Swimmer 07-18-2011, 02:09 PM After trapping the fourth pumpkin leave eating woodchuck I again brought this one a few miles down the road to a heavily wooded area surrounded by ponds and bogs. As I pulled the have-a-heart trap from the back of my truck this guy pulls upwho has fourkids in the GMC jimmy. They all get out and the guy is giving me the evil eye. I roll the chuck out of the trap and drive off. I could be shooting them, or worse. I figure while not entirely legal it certainly is humane and savesmy pumpkins and organic produce.

Hey, I'll throw one on the griddle.
The Dad Fisherman 07-19-2011, 10:43 AM Some one told me about Coyote Piss....picked some up at the local garden center. Stuff smells friggin rancid, but once I put up a few vials of it around my garden I haven't seen a woodchuck since.
I know the little bastards were there before because they were eating all my summer squash leaves

The only thing I didn't try ever was the gas, but I received instructions on how to do that. The cops never came to my house so I guess he never called. Either way I think I was being fair letting it live.
JohnnyD 07-20-2011, 03:25 PM You've trapped 4 of 'em and haven't resolved to shooting them yet? You sure that you've trapped 4 different ones, as opposed to the same one 4 times?
UserRemoved1 07-20-2011, 06:01 PM :rotf2: Poor Woodchuck don't know if he's comin or goin. Every time he gets settled in some #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& stuffs him in a metal cage and drops him off 2 miles from home and makes him walk :hee:

My brother hit a squirrel with a rock when i was a kid and we tried to gas
him. They linger and struggle and there is always the chance of getting bit.:smash:
You did the best and safest thing. Those hogs always finish off the bait in the
trap so you sent him off with a full stomach too. :hihi:
nightfighter 07-20-2011, 07:42 PM Gotta mark them with spray paint if you're going to release them IMO, so you know if they return. I prefer the float test... while in the trap. As serious as you are about you growing, Frank, I can only imagine how much they piss you off...... Are you growing giants this year?

Ross thanks to the chucks, NO. They ate all three plants enough to ruin them. Thats why I am going to continue with this eradication program all through the winter. I should have the problem licked by fall. My neighbor told me this morning he got another one just over the wall from my yard. That chuck couldn't swim.

John I am sure these are different chucks. I did shoot the first one because I caught it right in the garden, and thier have been four since then. The wife though requests that I don't shoot unless its absolutely necessary.
In the past I have sent most of the animals for aswim or just plugged them with a high-poweredpellet gun.
The Dad Fisherman 07-21-2011, 01:41 PM You must have friends at the police departmemt that can get you quality fireworks....I thought Cops always had the best fireworks. :hee:
a Quarter stick down their hole might help matters
UserRemoved1 07-21-2011, 02:13 PM If nothing it'd be pisser funny to imagine Swimmer as Chevy Chase :rotf2:

Swimmer 07-22-2011, 03:33 PM I never kept any of the fireworks I confiscated. Turned them all over to fire marshalls. I need to get some of those smoke bombs though. Love that movie Scotty.

Swimmer 08-09-2011, 01:54 PM Oppossum walked into trap this morning, transported to Hailfax woods.
UserRemoved1 08-09-2011, 04:14 PM possum
was he ornery Frank? I've seen them walking around but never in a trap. Critter guy in Hudson years ago used to wrap the trap with a pillow case.
Then drop it in the trash can full of water :hee:
