View Full Version : Commercial Update?
numbskull 07-20-2011, 02:00 PM Was out last night and saw much less commercial pressure than I expected (which was a pleasant surprise). That which was out there seemed to be moving a lot.
I'm curious. Is this the same elsewhere? Are they finding and catching fish in good numbers or is it slow? What are they getting $/lb presently.
Is there a link where this stuff is posted?

It is behind. I know several people limiting out large every available day.
I dropped some fish off to my local market on Sunday. He said it was the only fish dropped off that day at that point Last price I saw was for last wed in new bedford 3.75-3.99 a pound

Well, I know where those people aren't fishing. Worst fishing in years in my neck of the woods. Every year since '07 has been a downhill progression. Just speaking locally

MY RI commercial friends on wheels ... have been on a downward spin the last 5 or so years ><<><:fishin:
But then again ..they will spend all night / getting pogies / But won,t spend one night / tossing/drifting eels :wall:
Rob Rockcrawler 07-21-2011, 03:24 AM How is the quota for stripers alomst twice that of bluefish?
piemma 07-21-2011, 04:36 AM Opened on the 12th. 74K pounds in a week and a half in pretty poor. I remember back in the 90s we would do that in a couple of days.
Back Beach 07-21-2011, 05:48 AM My guess is it will be filled by late August regardless of what it looks like now. The reporting always lags behind by several days. Even though the reporting looks light right now, I always wait until the season closes to make any judgement. If it goes longer than August you could make a strong case for stock depletions starting to impact the catch numbers. Every week is different, some good and some not.
Raider Ronnie 07-21-2011, 06:02 AM Everything is about 2-3 weeks behind from last year.
Here it is getting close to aug and we are still jiggin up macs in Boston harbor, normally there are long gone by now.
No worries:uhuh:
Typhoon 07-21-2011, 06:10 AM I'm paying $3-$3.50 depending on the day.
My area I fish Race Point is like a spigot that got turned off. You could fill the boat about 5 miles north if it was legal.
Mr. Sandman 07-21-2011, 06:30 AM LOT of commercial fish where we can't target them.
OMG!! On the way back from a trip east of ACK we ran over a shoal (well outside the EEZ) and it was stacked thick with bass...for miles! I have not seen the recorder light up like that in years.
I feel sorry for the cape communities that are hosting all of south eastern RI/MA on Tue/Wed/Thur for the summer. The bass fishing is very slow out here and everyone has left for the land of easy jigging. Multiple limits are being landed. (for those who have lic's for their wives, kids, dogs, etc.)

Race Point = skinny fish ! :uhuh:
Sea Dangles 07-21-2011, 06:41 AM Everybody in your area is fishing Chatham George. Although we have plenty of pogies in Buzzards Bay,the large concentrations of bass are hard to find.Lots of fish off Race Point too, untouchable. The NJ bite is over now and it is between Watch Hill and Montauk where you can find large concentrations of large lice covered fish.I would think Block Island is a good bet too.
Fly Rod 07-21-2011, 08:36 AM Gazillion stripers outside the 3 mile limit.
Here on Cape Ann we have been getting $4.50 per lb. or better.
Fishing here has been good, not great, is slow on the commercial end. Any body catching 30 fish around here are behind the draggers when they haul back or they are being passed off. Where are the enviromentals? If they catch one they put a scare into those doing that.
If you put your time in around here trolling mac's you will get an average of 12-15 fish for sale. Makes for a good pay check.
NEXT2NUN 07-21-2011, 08:41 AM Race Point = skinny fish ! :uhuh:
thats from trying to stay ahead of the seals

Took my mom out for an early dinner last night for her B-Day at Fresh Catch in Easton. One of the dinner specials was striped bass for $22. I couldn't live with myself if I paid that much for bass, so I got the haddock special.

you should have bought it, might be the only bass you'll see for the rest of the year.

I was going to make a smart alec comment in response, but then realized you're probably right. I may give up fishing and start working on my golf game, which is even worse than my fishing.

Can not deal with a retailer legally unless they are licensed with the state. And then there is the paper work that has to go to the state with every transaction.
Clammer 07-21-2011, 01:20 PM go to pro-jo ON LINE DATED YESTERDAY 07/20/2011 in the FOOd section

The Dad Fisherman 07-21-2011, 01:39 PM I couldn't live with myself if I paid that much for bass, so I got the haddock special.
My wife has that same philosophy from working in a Liquor Store....she can't imagine paying $23 for a bottle of Sutter Home (Not that she Drinks Sutter Home) at a restaurant when its $5.99 at the store.....and thats before our discount
Clammer 07-21-2011, 01:57 PM when I,m out /

Back Beach 07-22-2011, 09:28 AM Looks like the landings are tracking closer to normal after this week.
piemma 07-23-2011, 05:34 AM As of 7/23/11 at 5:00 AM
Landed Quota % of Quota
Striped_Bass 183,586 1,061,898 MA 17.3%
Fly Rod 07-23-2011, 05:42 AM Price here has dropped to about $2.60 from $4.70 at the beginning of the week. Cape Cod fishermen dumped about 20,000 lbs. on our market, they came up with two truck loads.
