I'm confused. I am going to Boston this weekend to buy a boat. I would like to visit Rhode Island and fish my way home. I need to know what license or several S/W licenses I need.
Thank GOD New York repealed the S/W license to our GOD given right to fish. I registered with the FEB's to get on their registry. Which is a giggle, we can't find 30 million illeagal aliens, but we can keep a thumb on American citizens.
But what about Conn., Mass. and R.I.?
I read the sticky, but it didn't answer my question.
Thanks.

Theory is you need a license, there is a thread on getting checked that is interesting.

Hey Pete, I read that thread. Still inconclusive.
I just went to a different fishing forum and got a free New Jersey S/W registration, in like 3 minutes online.
Anything like that for Conn RI or Mass?

If you're gonna fish here, get a license like the rest of us.

From talking with an EPO a month back, MA does not recognize the National Reg any more because we have our own license here.

When I did the research earlier this year, NH, RI, Conn all said on their website (I printed it out and saved them) Reciprocity will be granted for all those nonresident anglers possessing a valid license from INSERT ADJONING STATE or words to that effect. Therefore I bought a Mass license and can fish in ME, NH, MA, RI and CT. If they change the wording during the season, what can I do?
I am hoping that the legislators are smart enough to realize that nonresident anglers spend $$$ and are glad to have nonresident anglers come rather than getting a couple of bucks in fees.

JohnnyD, from you, I don't need a lecture. I'm going to fish in your state. I am here looking to get fishing license info.
Doesn't this this patch work of regulations seem outrageous to anyone?

I'm not lecturing and do think the whole process is a bit lame. However, the info is pretty simple - you can fish in MA waters with a MA, RI or CT saltwater license. Otherwise, you have to buy one.
Mass. Division of Marine Fisheries: Recreational Fishing Permit (http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dmf/recreationalfishing/rec_permits.htm)

I apologize if I came off a bit crass.

Thanks JohnnyD. that's what I was looking for.
The lecture part is a reference to the "Steinfeild" show. I am from New York you know!

You can fish in Ma, RI and CT with a license from any one of the states, they are all reciprocal.

Thanks MakoMike,
Is the Federal registry relevant in these states?

Direct from the site I linked above:
"Do I need to sign up for the National Saltwater Angler Registry as I did in 2010 (and pay an additional $15 starting in 2011)?
No, the Federal permit no longer covers you to fish in Massachusetts waters. Your MA permit allows you to fish in MA and Federal waters as well as land your fish in Massachusetts. "

I just checked my FED Registry and my card is up 9/16/11. Are you saying the FED card will cost me $15.00 to renew?
I just registered with Rhode Island, paid my $10.00 and got RI's salt water license.
I now have a free New Jersey and a $10.00 Rhode Island saltwater fishing license, according to MakoMike, I should be able to fish NY, Conn, RI, and Mass.
Will I still need to get the FED card?

Thanks
Brian

No fed card needed. MA won't recognize it even if it isn't expired. If you have a RI card, then you're all set for MA, RI and CT.

If you have a license from MA, RI or CT you don't need the federal registration to fish in federal waters. You are also covered by the RI and CT license to fish in NY as long as the water you are in is "adjacent" to RI or CT. A MA license is no good in NY., but you can sign up for the FREE ny registry and be covered whever you fish in NY.

It's pretty simple: you need a NY registry card for NY, and your RI non-resident license will let you fish in RI and CT. You'll have to buy another $10 non-resident license to fish MA. MA will honor RESIDENT licenses from RI, CT and NH, but not non-resident licenses.

Man it takes an attorney to deciefer the regs. Ok, I'll get an out of state MA license. I don't need one for NY as I don't fish saltwater in NY. I haven't made it to MA yet, maybe this weekend
Thanks

That's the way to do it, as the RI and MA non-resident licenses cost the same ($10). CT honors both resident and non-resident licenses from reciprocal states. You can get your MA license online and print it out--in fact, that's the only easy way to get it, as there are only 3 locations in Mass that sell them on-site.

Thanks for the poop, Mike.
I hate this tax and spend mentality. If the "authorities" wanted real time fishing info, there are ways of doing that. When I was a kid on Long Island, NYS DEC would send me a small log book to input trout fishing info. End of the season I would mail the book back to them. I used to fish and catch searun trout in all the local estuaries
and streams. Those trout are still available. NYS State always listed fresh water streams turned to saltwater at the first dam. There is no season on searun trout so one could fish them all year round.
