View Full Version : who done it
vineyardblues 07-31-2011, 03:43 PM Strange things going on ...
The garden is fenced in , below and above ground , except by the gate .
I am in garden every day and I see this and NO other damage to other plants . Any ideas ?
:wall:

You could poke somones eye out , Ask your Mother
Swimmer 08-01-2011, 12:09 PM Deer caN HOP OVER A FENCE WITH EASE. Chucks can roll under or dig under fences just as easy. I still have some pumpkins leave left you can use as bait if thier chucks.
Swimmer 08-01-2011, 12:12 PM I'll say this Peter, your corn looks good.
vineyardblues 08-02-2011, 09:03 AM 2 days and have yet to catch anything , now it's like striper fishing ...lol
The Dad Fisherman 08-02-2011, 10:27 AM You can always dress up like this and hang out in the garden and wait...

Seems like one taste of your corn and whatever moved on for greener pastures? Or better corn.:)
No really nice looking crop, hoping you actually get to eat some of the ears before the critter!
UserRemoved1 08-02-2011, 01:50 PM Either that or it tasted so hideous it rolled over and died

eastendlu 08-02-2011, 02:32 PM Ok i will admit it Peter it was me.:devil2::rotf2:
Saltheart 08-02-2011, 04:44 PM I found if it goes after a brand new ear each night its a ground hog. Them guys are picky , no going after what's left of last nights.
vineyardblues 08-03-2011, 10:06 AM I can't make this up , see new picture
A whole garden or good eats and One ear of corn :fury: gone
I see little poops below (ya want pic's) so it has to be a ???
I placed a rat trap at the bottom of the stalk this AM
rebaited the have-a-hart trap , :wall:
justplugit 08-03-2011, 10:37 AM Process of elimination, squirrels and crows don't normally feed at night and you would see deer tracks if it were a deer.
Prolly a racoon as they feed at night.
Try marshmellows and jelly for bait, they like sweets.
The Dad Fisherman 08-03-2011, 10:48 AM I would think a racoon would rip a stalk to the ground if it climbed up one to eat.....has to be something small I would think if its climbing the stalk
vineyardblues 08-03-2011, 11:04 AM I would guess a squirrel, we even have red squirrels that run all over and chase the others away , they can jump :)
I will try the marshmellows as bait , seen that on utube , sounds good
BigBo 08-03-2011, 11:25 AM I picked up some stuff at Home Depot made by Havahart called Critter Ridder. It's in granule form and you sprinkle around the perimeter of the garden. Says guaranteed to work for 30 days. So far so good after one week. Nothing eaten after application.
The Dad Fisherman 08-03-2011, 11:41 AM I'm still partial to the Coyote Piss....that seemed to keep them away too...

ditto
