Heartbreaking rickhern 08-01-2011, 10:55 AM Strange series of events. My seven year old son was helping me wash a cooler yesterday in the driveway. He did a great job, always eager to help. He the went to the backyard to shut off the water. He is usually very careful about shutting the gate but apparently forgot this time(he has no idea and never will as to how she got out) and in a rush I didn't check. She usually slept in a crate but I let her sleep upstairs with us the past few nights because it was cooler. I woke up last night at 1am and she was sleeping, spread eagle on her back, next to me. I noticed that she was in heat, cleaned her up a bit, and made a point to tell my son and roommate to be sure she doesn't get out front as she might want to roam. If any one thing was different, she would be out back catching a frisbee right now. :wall: Renegade6 08-01-2011, 10:56 AM i remember the eel bucket pic.... :-) and she was so great with Anthony.... this is terrible.... rickhern 08-01-2011, 11:00 AM Anthony and I buried her in the backyard. Very emotional for me, he held it together pretty well. I just looked down, as I am typing this, to see where she was:confused: GregW 08-01-2011, 11:16 AM Sorry to hear about your loss. PRBuzz 08-01-2011, 01:05 PM Sorry for the loss of a 4L family member...remember the good times. Looks like you already started with the posted pictures. And it is gonna sting for a while I'm afraid.... If it's right for you, do get another dog. My yard is not good and is why we have been without for some time... It's a bit over a year ago I lost my Boxer "Raider" as many on this site know (got 2 boxers buried in my yard) and also through this site we got another boxer "Dakota" from Luds. If you love dogs give it some time then get another one. You can never replace what you had but another one will come along and make you happy in different ways. niko 08-01-2011, 05:11 PM that sucks - sorry to hear Slipknot 08-01-2011, 05:19 PM I'm sorry to hear that Rick. very sad for sure afterhours 08-01-2011, 05:39 PM sorry for your loss... dogs are better than most people. You can never replace one with another it just made it easer to have another dog around. jeff FISHING_FOOL 08-01-2011, 07:17 PM Very sorry to hear this. Dogs are like people and its very tough to loose one. rickhern 08-01-2011, 07:47 PM Rick these were a couple I took when Sammie was really young. nice pup for sure Well that just got the waterworks flowing again. Great picture Dave, seriously thank you. rickhern 08-01-2011, 07:56 PM As many know, Sammy was supposed to become queen of the house. My yellow lab, Sophie, is almost 14. She won't make it thru another winter. My other chocolate is buried in the backyard. I expected to lose a friend, but never thought it would be Sammer. My boy was so strong, which I am not so sure is good. He has seen Dad cry more than a few times(I am a mess at most kids movies, hallmark commercials, etc - usually happy stuff) but he has only seen me emotionally upset at a few funerals and the loss of the dogs. Good opportunity to explain that it is fine for men to cry. Tough answering questions that I really don't have answers to. Thanks all for your thoughts. There will be another pup in the future but it's not in the cards right away. Probably will look for another Choc so if anyone has a lead on good female in a few mths, drop me a pm. Again, thanks guys, this helped and my condolences to all who have had similar losses. WESTPORTMAFIA 08-01-2011, 08:30 PM Sorry to hear about the bad news. That's pretty tough to deal with. Long way back we had a Black lab, about 8 moths old, and I had her out just for a sec getting her water turned around gone, started calling her and 2 sec later i hear the tires locking up out on the road. Yup buried her myself before the kids got home. Doesn't take long. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
