So the boat is tied up at the dock in CH and I am chatting with the boater in a nice Bertram tided up on my ports side, the starboard side slip is vacant.
We are eating dinner Pasta Bow-Ties with a tomato puttanesca sauce (important I mention this) along with some meat ball and fresh veg's.
The tide is nearing the high change. The sun is setting. It is warm and we are all reflecting on what a nice day we had. My son is done with dinner and flips the only thing left on his plate, a lone stewed tomato, into the starboard slip and 3 bass around 20-25# explode on it from under the boat! He jumps up and alerts me to this and we follow it up with a couple pasta bow ties (cooked al dente) and they swing back again and pick those off as well. The sauce had some olive oil and you could see a small shine when the food hit the water. These bass were really close to the boat but were weary and would not hang around long, dart in and bolt away.
I picked up a rod that had a hook on it with a wire leader, baited it with a fresh Bow-Tie...dropped in along with a few freebies and they picked off the freebies and left the hooked bait. I cut off the hook and opened the tackle locker, pulled out some flouro and re-rigged sans wire. Did the same thing again and even matched the decent rate of the freebies...the freebies were picked up quickly by fish that flew thru the area and then one came screaming right up to the hooked bait... slammed on the breaks and stopped about one inch from the hook...examined it for about 1 second, then bumped it with his mouth, the bow-tie came off the hook, he ate it and left as fast as he shot in there. My son and I saw this in amazement (it all happened in about 5 seconds) and he screamed..DID YOU JUST SEE THAT?!!! Yeah...I did, you fish I am going to make another cocktail, I never seem to have much luck fishing with pasta.
Amazing. I wish I videoed it.
