View Full Version : My Sons First
fishbones 08-01-2011, 09:04 PM My son told me he wanted to catch a bluefish while we were on vacation down the Cape this week. We saw a ton of birds picking off bait while at the beach today, so I decided to take him after dinner. I was casting the plug into a pretty stiff breeze and letting my son reel it in. He was doing great, but there didn't seem to be any fish around. After a few minutes, I was watching him work the plug and all of a sudden I saw a fish hit it. As he got it to shore, I realized that it wasn't a small blue, but a tiny bass. He was thrilled, and I was probably even more excited than him to see him catch his first striper.
that's a big smile on that young man

Fisherwoman 08-02-2011, 06:43 AM That is awesome, what a cutie. he is hooked for life now.
ecduzitgood 08-02-2011, 06:54 AM Keep that picture safe for him when he gets older, he will remember that bass for his whole life and when he gets older you can frame it and give it to him.
Make sure he knows about bluefish and their teeth. One of the few things I remember when I was really young was my first snapper bluefish. I will start a different thread so I don't derail yours.
PRBuzz 08-02-2011, 06:55 AM Great experience and fish to boot....I'll bet he outfished Dad!
Make sure to instruct him properly: don't hold a bluefish that way.:)

blondterror 08-02-2011, 08:25 PM FB... I will make him a plug when i get back from vacation...what should I make FB Jr?
fishbones 08-03-2011, 09:47 AM Thanks everyone. He's still excited over it and wants to go back out again this evening. He was bummed out about not being able to go last night due to the thunder storms. I promised him we'd go to the B&T today to pick out a couple new plugs just for him. He also told me he wants a plug bag to replace his small Star Wars tackle box.
Blondterror, thanks that's very generous of you. I guess a topwater plug would be best for him since he'll be doing his fishing during the day for the next few years.
