I knew him well. Fished with him a lot in the early 90s. I have a ton of his plugs. They are not the prettiest in the world but they did catch fish, even bass, back when they were few and far between.

RIP old friend. Tight lines wherever you are.

First met him in about 1980. Used to always see him from Charlestown to WH. I.d make it a point to buy a bulk of poppers each year. Always friendly and if he knew you he would keep you informed of where and when. Very few mornings I can remember when he wasn't along the East Beach area. Everybody made a big deal when he bought the new "Plugman" truck. :)

Great guy and a part of the Surf Fishing scene for the almost 30 years I fished south county before taking the Canal plunge.

Rest in Peace Dell.

A Del Barber story:

It was probably 89 or 90 and we were fishing Fresh Pond Rocks. Del was a fixture there. Well, he was fishing the right side of there rocks where he claimed there was a channel in the rocks (all BS). Anyway, Del needed to take a crap so he waddled up to the snow fence away from the rocks, dropped his waders around his ankles and commences to take a crap. All of a sudden he lost his balance and went ass over tea kettle and ended up like a turtle on it's back. Giant ass up in the air and his waders around his ankles. He starts yelling "Somebody want to help me"? Well as you can imagine this was just too good to mess with. Guys are taking pictures and hooting and hollerin' all over the beach. Del was getting madder and madder and, if memory serves me right, it was Habs who finally went over to help Dell. Course John made Del pay for it.:rotf2:

That is sad news. Many a time was spent just chatting with him, while he was casting his poppers in the channel, just before dark. I will miss him, for sure.
My prayers will go out to his family. RIP, old friend!
