View Full Version : Mr. Numbskull temporarily disabled
SAUERKRAUT 08-15-2011, 08:09 PM My beach partner friend tore his achilles tendon attempting to play soccer with his college athlete kids! Damn...now I can't free load off him putting me on fish.
My Mom died last March; I still have her Braun Lift wheelchair van Ford 150 Econoline in my possession. I am going to loan it to him as soon as he gets fixed so he can get up to the Canal and fish the Pier or the East Basin bulkhead for starters.
BigFish 08-15-2011, 08:21 PM Too many of our great fishing buddies on the DL!!! Get well soon George!:uhuh:

That's a tough injury for an old goat- my partial tear has taken 18 months to stop giving me grief, even with PT.
Hope your recovery goes smoothly.

Mr. Sandman 08-16-2011, 06:23 AM Jesus George! I stopped trying to keep up with my kids. The problem with aging (yes you are aging!) is that it takes a lot longer to heal. youth seems to bonce back in no time, old men like you and me, well...this could take some real time. Good health to you!
vineyardblues 08-16-2011, 06:31 AM Not to worry George ProfessorM will carry you on his back if needed
He is not over the hill yet , small but tuff :)

JohnR 08-16-2011, 06:41 AM Ouch George! Sorry to hear this. Having been a recent victim of stoopid pet tricks I can empathize, but in this case I really don't want to feel you pain.

Slipknot 08-16-2011, 07:23 AM wow this sucks George

maybe you can get in the oxygen chamber and speed up your recovery
Karl F 08-16-2011, 07:27 AM Good Lord George, playing with 20 something college athletes? wow.. talk about Russian Roulette...you are lucky you got away with just an achillies injury, if they were going for blood they would have taken you out at the knees.. ACL, MCL kinda stuff, the soccer injury that slows you down for a few months..(if you're 20 something)..
Heal Well, (and fast as possible)...and leave the "kicks" to the young ones!!!
Bronko 08-16-2011, 07:50 AM Hang in there George, tough injury. On a more positive note, you should be ready to go by May 1st!

Sgt Striper 08-16-2011, 09:44 AM :rollem: Jeez George, and you pick on Paul for doing dumb stuff! Well now that you have time, you and the Prof. can design and develop a titanium/autoclaved carbon fiber, fully articulated ankle support (fully sealed of course for dunking). Don't forget studs also for the rocks :rotf2:
nightfighter 08-16-2011, 10:21 AM I'll bet the dog is pissed.....
Does this mean I can send you all my reels for cleaning and upgrades over the winter?:grins:

I am surprised Alan was so gentle explaining the injury to us. I am sure he is lobbying to do the surgery for you :)On a serious note if you need anything don't hesitate to ask. Bummer.
t.orlando 08-16-2011, 01:20 PM Get well soon Numby..........................and I hope we don't see a "How to fix your achilles tendon with your plug bag sewing machine" thread from you soon.
Pete F. 08-16-2011, 01:23 PM Ya know I went to see my brother, a doctor, a few years ago about some issue. He said I know exactly what it is: You turned 50 and your warranty expired.
Get well soon
Tagger 08-16-2011, 03:08 PM bummer ,,,,sucks getting old .. Better off sticking to picking on Alan and leave the kids alone . Need any thing give me a shout .

SINGING REELS 08-16-2011, 03:54 PM Hey, Doc, now it is your turn in the exam room. The problem is you will need to go to another part of the hospital for awhile. Having a little experience with your chosen field of endeavor, I can say that the injury may be very painful, especially when going through the PT work. Did they cast it?? I hope that you have a good and fast recovery so we can finish our conversation the next time we meet at the office.
UserRemoved1 08-16-2011, 04:01 PM Well look at it this way....least he'll be a easy target to throw rocks at now
:hidin:

Backbeach Jake 08-17-2011, 06:24 PM Get well and heal right. What drag it is getting old...
My BIL injured his achilles as well, just standing in the surf and a coconut hit him just right. He claims that it was an attack by a rare coconut shark...Rest up , don't push it.
OLD GOAT 08-18-2011, 08:18 AM On a more positive note I,ll bet George knows who the --gentle-- P.T.'S are.
No screaming in the PT room George. I did and frightened the rest of the patients.
They stuck me in a small private room with Wanda the wrestler. She tied a palomar knot with my legs
Adam_777 08-18-2011, 05:42 PM Hope it heals fast for you.I've heard the pain from that is pretty high up on the list.
ProfessorM 08-18-2011, 05:44 PM almost as much pain as being outfished by Alan he has told me .
numbskull 08-18-2011, 06:07 PM Ugh! Somewhere Flap is laughing. Remember his toe fracture?
Alas, when you are stupid life sometimes bites you in the ass, and all you can do is turn the other cheek.
It wasn't soccer, it was a Western PA family reunion volleyball game and like any good father I was teaching those disrespectful worthless 20-something sons of mine a lesson in trash talking. Probably I was describing my magnificence when it happened. At least now they'll feel guilty for.......10-15 minutes maybe (the scum finished the game without me).
Still, if you're going to get hurt, playing one last time with your kids is the way to do it.
Sounds like a trip to the OR, a month in a cast, 2 months in a boot, then 4 months of rehab.
Thanks for the well wishes.
Slipknot 08-18-2011, 06:30 PM Yep I remember Flaps' broke toe, It was one of the first things I thought of when I read Alan's post.
On a good note, I have some wall cabinets for you if you still want some??? let me know. I guess you will be on the disabled list for a while :(
Mike P 08-18-2011, 06:32 PM Ugh! Somewhere Flap is laughing. Remember his toe fracture?

Well, then, I'll turn most of them loose so you can get 'em on the way back up next spring. ;)

George-Numby: It would be especially ironic for the Flap to see you rehabilitating-- on the Fish Pier, in your wheelchair, at the Canal. I'll be glad to drive you there and prop you up. We all know how much you just LOVE to hate the Canal......
mag minnow 08-21-2011, 11:48 AM and a cup holder...I hope you have a speedy recovery.
stiff tip 08-21-2011, 12:46 PM nummie...at last a legit excuse not to fish the holy cow ......but how ru going to fish the round rocks on the island like that?.. did you get the leason across to the kids not to mess w/ a 50t something teenager....ouch
Fish_Eye 08-24-2011, 09:25 AM George, get well soon and keep a positive attitude.
SAUERKRAUT 09-01-2011, 05:15 PM Orthopedist Instructions: "NON WEIGHT BEARING"
Interpretation: That doesn't necessarily mean "Non Fishing".
Slipknot 09-01-2011, 05:18 PM not much weight to that little schoolie anyway
good to see you fishing George :btu:
afterhours 09-01-2011, 05:23 PM way to go george!
Backbeach Jake 09-01-2011, 05:37 PM Those pix do me a lot of good. Glad to see you out.
Raven 09-02-2011, 03:42 AM Orthopedist Instructions: "NON WEIGHT BEARING"
Interpretation: That doesn't necessarily mean "Non Fishing".
exactly....
now imagine: you can Bear weight in the morning (most mornings)
but you cannot always bear weight by the afternoon.... :bc:
of course, weighing as much as a Bear doesn't help either :grins:
Unfortunately pride makes me not a shameless boat whore....
but George with a cast (read anchor)
on that leg you SHOULD
have a PFD >>ON<< brother. :uhuh:
