Raven 08-27-2011, 04:01 AM when every media outlet is saying the smartest thing to do is to buy gas to be prepared for the storm thus increasing the demand.:fury: Tagger 08-27-2011, 05:55 AM I remember when it was $40 a barrel and gas was around $1 a gallon:confused: It's all BS! We were waiting in line for max $10.00 worth every other day depending on the last number of your license plate (odd/even).. I was driving a 383 road runner .. Master Blaster chokes off the valve .. Who run Barter Town ? JohnR 08-27-2011, 06:17 AM I remember in the 70's we were running out of all fossil fuels. Who run Barter Town ? Must be you mastablasta... Those throttle plates wouldn't open for less than 25 cents a shot... HESH2 08-27-2011, 07:38 AM pumped gas back in the 60's 3.2 gallons $1.saw on tv there are 3 refiners in nj area that produce 8% of sales in usa.so price will probably go up again. mag minnow 08-27-2011, 07:51 AM I remember in the 70's we were running out of all fossil fuels. Who run Barter Town ? Some countries still use the odd / even method to keep cars off the road...and I remeber gas at $0.37...and my folks got all their silverware and glassware when we bought gas. Well there and the Green Stamps place. : ) Finaddict 08-27-2011, 09:01 AM Yep ... the 72 gas shortage ... long lines ... my buddy and his brother lived about a block from one of the gas stations and made a killing selling coffee and doughnuts that their mother made for them to sell ... ... granted "a killing" to a 7-year-old in 1972 could have been a mere $5 or $10 bucks ... I have no idea how much he made ... but it was enough to get a newspaper article written about it ... ... and I am sure many of those people waiting in the long lines to buy gas thought better of it after about 20-30 minutes of drinking the coffee ... rphud 08-27-2011, 09:59 AM Remember all the cool stuff you could get with Green Stamps! Had a Beetle in those days. My odd day ration of gas lasted a couple of weeks. Very glad for that. numbskull 08-27-2011, 10:11 AM I bought a Martin Automatic Fly reel with green stamps as a kid. Spring loaded retrieve. Robin egg blue, weighed about a lb. Got a cheap flyline, too. Didn't have a flyrod. Put it on a Garcia Conlon 8 or 9ft spinning rod, bought a single royal coachman fly, went fishing in a local pond, hooked a 4" sunfish, and skittered that fish right in with the automatic retrieve. Decided flyfishing was no fun and moved on to snagging pickerel. :) Saltheart 08-27-2011, 06:13 PM I remember Sunoco economy grade at 17 cents a gallon! Mike P 08-27-2011, 06:18 PM I remember Sunoco economy grade at 17 cents a gallon! Jenny, too. Jungledog 08-28-2011, 10:24 AM I remember 4 gallons for a dollar when I had my 65 GTO. My buddies and I would chip in and throw the change we had in our pockets a drive around all night. Not the same world. Wish I has the foresight to garage that car. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device rphud 08-28-2011, 12:01 PM I wish you had the foresight to sell it to me. Right around '80 or so. Garaged or not! tattoobob 08-28-2011, 12:34 PM Gas has not gone up in my area it was $3.49 yesterday when I went to fill up a gas can it was $3.49 UserRemoved1 08-28-2011, 01:03 PM that car right now would be worth something around $30k maybe more. I saw the original Tin Indian car at my shop a few weeks ago. That was a 66, worth ~250k. It's sitting in the new Pontiac museum now. I remember 4 gallons for a dollar when I had my 65 GTO. We were giving max of $1.00. A lady from NY pulled in and said to fill it up. Told her $1.00 max and she got mad as hell and said OK. She took .75 worth. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
