:confused: Any one ever troll for Strippers from a sail boat? Helping my friend lawnch(sp?) his sail boat in Narragansett Bay Saturday and figured I might give it a try. Any suggestions would be apreciated. I am a novice fisherman and I fish down in Quanicantaug. Does anyone know of successful tackle to use on the pond edge or breachway? I am new to this site as well and like what I see :D

I've done it. Not around here but in Brazil. I used plugs and caught bluefish and mahi-mahi as well as several other fish I couldn't identify.

I was in a bar one time and this guy was talking to a couple of hotties who looked like they might have been strippers....
He kept mentioning the fact that he had a sailboat. Later that evening, one of the strippers appeared to be hooked.
I hear BMW's work well also.

Troll for strippers around the marinas, wear expensive glasses and a Rolex you should do pretty good.

I know at least one guy that has used his sailboat for trolling, I just don't know if it was sail or power.

Salt pond edge and breachways pretty much take different types of tackle. Big fish are available in both places, but you need heavier tackle to deal with them in the current of the breachways.

A light saltwater spinner or conventional would be good for the saltponds where you would want a heavier spinner or conventional depending on the type of reel you like for the breachways. The choices are virtually endless, but if you can tell us what size lures or bait you plan on fishing we can help you out with some recommendations.

I have trolled across the atlantic 4 times back and forth from bermuda to florida and from bermuda to the bahamas. caught wahoos, dolphin, tuna, but never caught any stripers or strippers. i bet it would be hard trying to get close to any structure from a sailboat for stripers. i bet you would have a better bet trying to get into bluefish or false albecore than stripers. i don't know that area that you will be fishing but i would imagine it would be better later on in the summer though. good luck

My Dad told me when he was a kid in Ocean Grove NJ they used to launch the fishing boats from the beach, sail boats and used to catch fish trolling. They would work a school and keep going over them and not scare them with motor noise....just my dime...

I trolled around in my sailboat fro twenty years. You hardly ever get stripers. two reasons , one is you tend to go too fast to maintain good steerage way do to the windage of a sailboat compared to a powerboat. second , as someone mentioned , you acn;'t get in where you'd like to with a keel sticking so far down into the water. what you get is hundreds and hundreds of bluefish. I have troilled up soooo many bluefish from my sailboat that you can't even count them. Its fun and great on a windless day but its not stripers.

I was out on the boat last year near fort adams in newport and there was a sail boat trolling, under sail too. I don't know how successful it is for bass, but he was landing as many blues as anyone else out there. He didn't seem to have any problems. Its sunday almost now lol but i say go for it

If you are trolling beware of Bluefish taking a swipe at your package..... the Bobbit syndrome........ouch ouch ouch!!!!!!:p
