Are you guys using any type of different anchor when toggin. I have a traditional style anchor and am concerned about getting the thing stuck in the rocks everytime I drop. The spots im looking to go are rock ledges and boulder piles. Should I be looking to pick up something different for targeting these fish?

just rig your danforth backwards.

holds fine.

Any anchor that is rated for the size of your boat will be fine. They will all get stuck and involve the boat in gear to get them out for the most part.

looks like an easy custom build for someone with modest skill.

Just rig your danforth style with a break away plastic tie so if it gets stuck you can pull it out backwards.

I use something like this when fishing in anchor snag prone areas, not a great anchor but just a cheap lunch hook that shouldn't get snagged in the rocks.....

I use a might-mite anchor. It is rated for a smaller boat but it holds well. Also the tines bend back so if you have to rip it out you can bend it back. After about 10 seasons a tine may break but it works well.


Some places are so rocky that its like dropping an anchor into a rock jetty...it goes in opens and there is no way of getting it out.


I saw a really nice rock anchor on craigslist a year ago and I am kicking myself for not buying it.

Im not a big fan of the might mite. The aluminum prongs loose they're integrity to easily. I've broken off all but two prongs. I only use it now as an additional weight attached to the end of a grapnel anchor for hairy situations. Almost always I use a stainless steel grapnel with four 1/2" prongs....it still straightens to get it undone yet a lot stronger then aluminum and no dealing with rust of steel. Post a pic later
