enough is enough. Sure you have a right to protest but you DO NOT have the right to live on public land, shut down businesses or disobey police orders. No one has those rights. All the occupy "camps" should be shut down.
Just wait until Boston complains it has no budget to handle clearing the roads but yet we have budget to supply electricity and police to the occupy camp. The tax payers should file civil suits against the occupyers.

Oakland, California (CNN) -- Authorities used tear gas early Thursday on anti-Wall Street protesters who defied orders to disperse after earlier shutting down the Port of Oakland, California, police said.

A crowd of several hundred people threw rocks and shot fireworks at officers after being asked to leave the scene, prompting officers to fire tear gas, authorities said.

After the port protest, Occupy Oakland demonstrators returned to a city park and nearby streets, where the violence broke out.

Hazy video from the scene, posted on the Internet, showed a fire burning and fireworks exploding as at least one protester threw objects.

Police said in a statement that after a day of "primarily peaceful" demonstrations, they responded to a late-night call that protesters had broken into and occupied a downtown building and set several fires.

"The protesters began hurling rocks, explosives, bottles and flaming objects at responding officers," the statement said. "Several private and municipal buildings sustained heavy vandalism."

Dozens of protesters wielding shields were surrounded and arrested, police said.

Police issued their first order to protesters to clear the area about 11:55 p.m., the statement said. After "repeated orders" were issued, police were then ordered to fire tear gas and bean bags at the demonstrators.

"-- At about 1:40 p.m., police started forcefully clearing Zuccotti Park, shoving protesters with their batons and making more arrests. The fracas became bloody after a cop's hat was flipped off his head.

Witnesses said they were unsure what sparked the police action, but said no warning was issued. Protesters were penned inside the park as cops allowed no one to enter or exit the area.

-- At about the same time, a contingent of protesters decided to storm City Hall, but unknowingly ran to the Department of Education building on Chambers Street. Once there, they comically chanted, “Bloomberg must go! Bloomberg must go!”

Finally, one of the clueless demonstrators realized the mistake and told the others: “This isn’t City Hall?”

They then ran to 1 Centre Street, where one exclaimed: “There it is! That’s City Hall!” and the chanting resumed."

Come on Johnny. Ar you going to seriously suggest that the occupiers are presenting themselves in a similar fashion to tea partiers? You see no difference in the behavior of those 2 groups?

How many tea partiers got arrested?
How many cops did tea partiers send to the hospital?
Ho many public parks did tea partiers use as personal toilets?
How many small businesses were negatively impacted by tea partiers?

Lots of people don't agree with the tea party agenda, and that's fine. But the tea partiers weren't a bunch of annoying anarchists. The tea partiers, by and large, didn't bother anybody.

"The proposals were received with a mix of excitement, anger and disbelief among protesters, many of whom did not know that members of the camp were in negotiations with city officials.

"I don't appreciate people appointing themselves to represent me, to represent us," one woman called out during the assembly. "Who was in those meetings?""

"I have made it clear that there are some people who would want to stay and others who want to take that offer," he said, adding that the offer of office space will remain even if some "stay here and decide to get arrested."

So they're going to give them office space for WHAT?

Ah Spence is concerned that "corporations" wield too much political influence. Spence, are you equally concerned about the politicalinfluence bought by public labor unions? Those unions elect politicians who will reward the union with stupid benefits, which we have to pay for with ever-rising property taxes. Every town and state in the country is now buckling under the weight of those insane promises.

In my opinion, the labor unions have had a more detrimental impact on my personal finances than any corporation. In the end, corporations don't get any money from me unless I choose to give it to them. The teachers union takes my money by force of law, force they bought with campaign contributions. In an unbelieveble case of hypocrisy, liberals show no concern when liberal groups engage in the same practice.

You are 100% correct. I'll say 2 things. First, I don't know how often that happens. Second, if what you describe amounts to a big deal, I wonder why the Obama administration didn't fix that during his first 2 years, when the Democrats controlled the House, and had a fillibuster-proof majority in the Senate? The occupy leader is an idiot then because it's pretty simple to understand if you remove the partisan-fueled bias... Corporations are in the pockets of every politician. The current and previous administrations both had the energy sector in their pocket - one was oil, the other solar.

Our government is a joke because it's run with the same inefficiencies and mentality as Unions - seniority rules, don't try to change the status quo and you'd better assimilate into the Good 'Ol Boy's Club and how they run things. If I had it my way, 90% of the incumbents would be voted out and term limits would also be put into place.

I think that's more a reflection on how politically charged our system has become. Pragmatic solutions are politically dangerous inside the beltway. As such, there's less constructive activity and people naturally gravitate to the minority party...which in a few years becomes the majority.
