I have been putting this off for too long and now the existing fence is ready to fall down. Rotted etc.

Question is this: Below, you can see the old fence. I want to put a new vinyl fence up instead of wood again. No maintenance is good for me! How do I install a vinyl fence on this slope? I've poked around and it looks I'd need to cut the fence down and "step" down the slope. Is there a way to do it like the existing one or am I hosed? It's a pretty steep grade. Want to hid the backyard from the road so people can't see how much of a mess it is ;)

hosed with vynyl, does not co-operate like those cedar panels do, cut and step, unless their is someone else here who can tell ya different.. like the low maintenence idea of the plastic, but the cedar still is my "cover" of choice.

what would it cost to pay someone to clean
the back yard as compared to a new fence

cedar or vinyl .... would be my next question.

No cleaning it Raven. It's the back of the shed where the yard waste goes for the year before the town yard waste opens. Plus a propane tank back there I want to hide. Needs a fence

Bob,
You could use Azek trim and cut the points yourself. You will need to power wash off the cut ends, mold will grow on the cuts ends. Use the same structure as the original fence and use stainless nails. You could probably biscuit them together or just use the Azek glue.

It can be pricey,

Or you could build a retaining wall and put a new vinyl fence straight across....

Go cedar, what do you get 15-20yrs, maybe 10-15yrs, vs infinity with vinyl....:uhuh:

Bob I'd go cedar. Plastic fence looks like #^&#^&#^&#^& imo.

I think the cedar would add more to the value of the house?

I have cedar on both sides of the house, and all down the back approx 190' and one side of the backyard is posts and 4' heavy steel wire so as to blend in and allow a nice view of the woods in the backyard.

more like a good view of the chipmunks approaching...-lol

if your garage side there was facing south ....

if it was me..i'd add a lean-to green house there

Salty - It's only 2 panels and a gate. The fence stops where you see it in the pic. From the end of the fence towards the backyard (corner lot house) is just trees so I doubt I can add much to the value. Besides, the freaking town would probabl try to tax it on me ;)

Raven - I would LOVE to have a little greenhouse but the trees at the end of the house are too big and block the sun the majority of the time to that side of the house. Heck...I'd be happy if I could put in a garden too

EASY PEASY then Bob. Go down to homies and buy some cedar posts. Block them up with 2x4 and buy some fence sections, knock the pickets off and renail onto the hill. Take you less than a day to rip that out and redo, even rehanging the gate.

Let it weather for a bit then stain it.

It will outlive you.

Leave the 2 panels on the left and plant forsythia's in front staggering them so they will grow in full. When you can't see the fence, cut it down then all you will need is a vinyl gate.

bob fence has to be built ,, no matter cedar or plastic ,, vynal ,, the idea is custom cut each piece ,, if you need how too ,, pm me ill walk you threw it ,, very simple ,, but pricey

I was afraid of that Shark. Looked at that slanted panel and looked custom. Maybe plants are the way to go after all lol!
