I'm interested in how you other Northerners get around the cold, windy winter weather in order to spray primer your plugs? I'm paranoid about using my custom built spray booth because it uses axial fans (explosion hazard).
Are most of you dipping your plugs? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Muskyslayer96, I don't have a custom spray booth. I use rattle cans an have a Big Box to spray Plugs in, an just hang in basement an let the heat dry them. I'm shore you will get some GREAT ANSWERS.
GOOD LUCK HAPPY HOLIDAYS:uhuh:

I have a bulkhead Bilco door and a door from my shop to the steps... that step area is my spray booth...

I just do it in the very large, cold stock room at work and hang in warm room right after till they dry and take home after. 5 or so at a time. 10 minutes max. I am not a mass producer.

I do what striperman36 does. I do hundreds of plugs like this. Keep them warm spray a couple dozen outdoors. let hang for 15 min then take inside and hang by the furnace. My ceiling by the furnace has 100 screw eyes in it. I then do a second batch an by this point the hangin plugs are ready for the second coat.I've run about every test you can do to see if they will peal and they do fine. I let them set for at leat 48 hrs then paint the top coats the same way.they then set 48hrs till other colors like red throat an gills or dots. 48 more hrs then the E-tex goes on. Plugs have done fine thet way. Ron

I have a rolling cart with a rack on top and ground level entrance.. I roll it out the door the and spray each one outside then hang the plug on the rack. when complete.. roll the rig back inside.. it's quick.. with minimum heat loss...I do dozen or more lots.. and pick the latter part of the days when the temp is above freezing.. or during warm spells (during extended cold spells I work on "activities" that do not require opening the door) I try and plan ahead as best possible..

that's why I try and get as many turned and primed now... i have the rest of the winter to finish them..

When I have a large run I dip and hang. Oil base primer "gold label". Thinned approx. 30% - 40% to flow off plug. 2 coats covers well. I use a cardboard box with coat hanger wire across the opening and a roller drip tray to catch excess. I cut a slot horizontal at the bottom of one end to slide tray through.Once the majority drips off I pour the excess back in can.

Open the door at the bottom of the bulkhead stairs, spray primer furiously into the bulkhead area, which is not airtight, and then slam door shut hoping overspray dissipates quickly.

I brush all my primer on...I even get to sit on a stool to do it...then hang ...when they feel like drying they do....then take them upstairs and sit in my easy chair, turn on the boob tube and sand away.Corse I put an old towel in my lap first.

What do you use for primer? Oil or latex?

Thanks,
