Any of you guys have a trick to get a 2 piece apart. I'm putting all my gear away and I've got one that is absolutely stuck.

ice one side, heat the other
then pull with a twist

Use two people and those rubber jar openers or silicone pot holder.

Bag of ice around the joint for an hour or leave it out overnite or if you have access to a walk in freezer

shot of liquid wrench ....protect your eyes against blow-back though
VERY IMPORTANT

I use the rubber jar openers, twist away from each part, should come unstuck

If you use heat on one side, Slipknot did not mean an acetelyne torch. Blow dryer maybe and only for as much time as necessary. While heating have one person pulling, so you only heat it as much as needed.

Thanks all! I'm going to try the temp change methods tonight. If that doesnt work I'll give the liquid wrench a try. I tried to gorrilla it appart with my uncle but we were hitting the guides and I didn't want to snap one off. The grip pads are a good idea on that front. It was the rod that was in my car all season incase an opportunity presented itself. Sitting in a black car in the summer heat has got that thing being awfully stubborn.

I usually have good luck once the weather turns cold just putting it outside, I need to do it to my Mojo but it has'nt been cold yet. I think the coldest it has been here in VT is in the 20s.

However when they are ready to try to pull apart they sit down with the joint right behind their knees , grab each side with the non slip jar opener things , lock their wrists and forarms against the outside of their legs and then open there legs so they are pulling with their arms and also pushing outward using their leg muscles.

Step 1) get 2 Ford F150's
Step 2) Tie each end to a bumper
Step 3) engage the 4 wheel drive
Step 4) hit the gas.
I believe this is how they do it in South Carolina

You don't have the right idea if you are thinking Hamstrings. You are sitting with your knees together then you spread them apart but use them to push your hands holding the two rod sections apart. So its more like a hip abduction. Sort of.

Sounds like you now own a one peice rod. Congrats LOL. Try iceing the bottom and hot water the top. Works pretty good.Make sure you ice the male side and heat the female side.

If stuck... wouldn’t the twisting potentially split the lower-female end?? I never had one stuck that bad and I do the twist thing but always worry about splitting.

Easiest way is to store it separated, and only put it together when fishing it. :D

Hahah, Didn't realize anyone was actually interested in this thing. I had to go to Philly unexpectedly and just got back yesterday. So I havent done anything with it yet. I'm going to Ice her down tonight while watching Football game. I'll report back with results.

I got an open end wrench that was the same diameter as the lower male section where the two parts joined and gave it progressively harder taps untill it came loose. I wrapped the top section in a towel so it wouldn't get damaged if it flew off so I could hold the bottom section and wrench and use the hammer. It was scarry but it worked. I kow make sure to wipe the male section on the skin around my nose to lubricate the joint, haven't had an issue since.

Try and get a wrench size that allows for a piece of paper to be slid between the wrench and the blank to protect the blank, you want a wrench that is real close to the size of the male section so that the lip of the female section will sit on the flat part of the wrench, tap the wrench close to the blank making sure it's squared off 90* not at an angle so it is making the maximun amount of contact.
You can place the whole rod down on a blanket or a carpeted floor and just weight the bottom half to resist moving while you use a quick sharp tap on wrench side parellel to the female lip. This allows the rod to move yet hits the female portion with full impact gun type force which should pop it loose. It spooked the hell out of me doing it to an arra I built, but I took my time and got it to release. If the towel wasn't on the top half it would have went flying so remember the towel if you have to get this extreme.

When and if you ever get it apart, put some paraffin wax on the male section before putting it back together.

You should not put anything on ferrels. Not wax , not nose oil (despite this being passed on fisherman to fisherman for many years , its a wives tale and not a good practice) , not anything. Anything that is oily or waxy will trap dirt or dust particles. These will bind up the ferrel but also cause wear of the ferrel over time. For ferrels , cleanliness is next to Godliness. Clean them thouroughly on a regular basis. If they are kept clean , wrung together and taken apart periodically , they should not freeze up or twist in use. If you leave them together for two months, in and out of a hot car , etc , its hard to know what may happen.

Now Im talking ferrels right in the fiber materials. For attached metal ferrels , etc , I really don't know but maybe a little nose oil may help there. Its been so long since I've seen a metal ferrel that it not all that big a deal for most.

She's a one piece! Its only an 8' rod so I can manage it. I failed to document the process of cooling and heating with photos so heres a few randoms. My Fall run in a nutshell, Tuna, and Selma. Thanks for the suggestions and the laughs.
