Setting aside a vacation week for fishing - what week would you pick.

I'm thinking early June but the moon is full the first week and a half. I'm not a big fan of the bright moons. Although, my PB this year was on a 92% WG moon.

maybe the last 2 weeks in may/or june 1 or 2 nd weeks,think those are good ,it depends on the herring,i already chose 1 or 2 of those weeks myself,vacation forms due before the first of the year

I put aside every week from May through November.

Depends on where you want to fish. I wanted to stay in Jamestown again this summer for another week and use the island as a base to fish the lower bay so I picked 7/14 - 7/21 with the new moon on the 19th. From what I've seen since I began fishing, the bass start to drop out of the upper bay around the last week of June and head for cooler, deeper water. I took all of that into account when I booked my vacation for next summer. Ideally i would like the new moon to fall on the last week of June, first week of July, but it's in the middle of the month this year. That's fine with me. Last year I woke up late in the morning, but the tide was right for a certain lower bay lighthouse so I figured I'd try my luck. Caught about 20 fish from 9:30 to 11 am on swimmers in the bright sun. Granted they were mostly all small keepers, but I'll take that any day in the middle of July. And at night you have a legit shot at taking a 30-40lb fish on eels if you put in the time. I guess the point of this rambling is that the fishing can be good throughout the whole year if you know when and where to look.

All that being said, I'd fish around the NM in June, anywhere from Naps to the Canal :)

Also, the fish are established in residency by this time, so it is considerably more predictable with respect to finding them.

I agree with this if you're just talking about RI/the Block. But if you're fishing the Canal you want to catch the fish while they're migrating. The fishing is very consistent and wind direction isn't really a factor unless it makes the water dirty. If you get skunked one day, you're likely to get fish the next day. Just the way it goes there. 5-6 20lb fish in one tide is fairly common and you always have a shot at bigger if you're jigging deep.

As noted, it really depends on where you plan to fish. If I was staying home in Connecticut, it would be between the August & September new moons. For RI, probably between the September & October new moons.

Sure depends where, but those are slammer weeks for me in the bay.

Depends where, but if it were me, it would be last week of may, first week of June, with the particular days dependent on the tide.

Definitely depends where... for the areas I fish in RI I would take the October new and behind that the September new. The majority if my bigger fish have come in October with a few in September or late August.

Assuming you're surf fishing for striped bass in New England? If so I would pick a week and place where there "resident fish are in place". Early season (early June) and late fall (October/November) are very migration dependent.
That said if I had a pick of only one week it would be the third or fourth week of June or first two weeks of July then the darker moon phase of that time frame. These 4 weeks offer resident bass just about everywhere and the best chance of stable weather. September is good but tropical weather systems are always a wild card - been blown out of a few Cape weeks from passing hurricanes and Block weeks by Noreasters or no migrating bass.

I like all of June really. In my area of Ct, May is a still a daytime bite as well as the night time tides. But if ya gonna fish farther north, the bass will still be migrating northwards. Probably there is some good daytime action in the early part of June too.
Now, I've caught bass on the full moons, but prefer a few days before and after the new moon night time tides.

It depends when that humongous school of mack start gettin blown up by gigantic fish. thats when id take it off :) early june will be glorious. finals are done the week before, its just starting to get really nice out..... all i can say now is F winter

and jig jay-> i'll t it up w u during that full moon, we'll just hit drivers over the canal at people. im thinkin set up across from the pier so we can target that AND murd. row

South of cape cod 1st or 2nd week of June, outer cape 3rd week of June, Boston north 1st week of July.

First of June around Cape Ann, plenty of mackerel and slobs 25pounders plus. The big fish are here all summer.

2nd week of June it is. I live about a mile from the ditch so can head north or south, depending on what's happening.
