I can't find where I read it, but I thought in one thread there was a discussion about what people use for a base coat on a new plug. I got some blanks from NJTackle and want to try making my own. Was it exterior white latex for the base? I'm guessing you use a spray gun for an even coat. Just one coat? I think I'm OK after that.

Jimbo, After sealing the plug with a product called "Deft" which I thin out for better penetration. ( it dries in 1/2 hour )
I use Krylon flat white primer from a spray can ( I have also used BIN ) one coat, sometimes two. After drying I buff with 4/0 steel wool. Then Airbrush and finish.
Note: Some of the blanks from NJ Tackle have already been sealed.
Also, when using Yellow Cedar, I skip the sealing part.
