Its that time of year - S-B Portly Angler competition ;) . Have you found yourself in this position before?


Waders losing watertight integrity?
Looking more and more like a Gray Seal to Great Whites?
Wearing your wetsuit on new moons only?
Canal Bike slowing down more going up the hills?

When does it begin? Officially: January 1st but you can stretch out to the 15th (or longer but the longer you go, more disavantaged you are).


Weekly weigh ins?
Track percentage lost with greatest percentage winning.
No surgical or like methods. A friend had lap band surgery and lost 80 pounds in a couple months mostly due to the resulting infection. This doesn't mention the nasty operation needed to get the infection under control.

I just saw the post about the kick off party so I missed it but I am in. I got so depressed after coming in only second (and being beat by a girl) last year that I gained all 32 pounds (I had started before the contest)and then some.

I went on a diet Xmass day so I am ready.

Allergies really kicked my @#$% this fall and I was not able to workout, thus the poundage. Captain Cupcake (aka jredfly) is in at 206.5. Being that I have won this before, if I do well this year I will be donating any plugs won back to the site. :)

For anyone interested theres some good free apps for the iphone/android to help track weight loss.

I use "weight tracker", its free, its easy, graphs your progress and gives you a countdown.

June 1st is 152 days away. Lots of time to make life long changes to increase your quality of life.

i didn't weigh in on monday, but i weighed in today and I am down to 244.2 from 250. for me the first 10-15 are so easy to lose. i wish the rest came off so easily... i guess i'll weigh again on monday and then keep on weighing mondays from here forward.

It is harder for me when the Pats keep doing well because I eat all the good football game food my wife makes. :uhuh:

In at 204. Went ice skating with the littlest guy yesterday at an MDC rink nearby. Had a blast, got a little exercise in plus it was free, nice to know I get something for my tax dollars. Feet don't move like they used to when I played hockey but it was still a lot of fun. :jump1:

I agree with Zac on this one...I start off great but usually get stuck at some point.

50 crunches each night before bed and I on bent the diet rules for the Tebow game.

292 this am...down five this week

This week is full of danger for me...working road trip mid week and then it's off to Oklahoma to take a competition BBQ class and a meat cutting class. They are feeding us...yeah...I might be in big trouble.

Wow! I made my plug donation of $23 via Paypal using the Donate to S-B function on the front page and it was super easy. I made a note that it was for the portly angler.
I think it took 5 seconds.

No change in standings New Jack and Kegger are doing great. Total weight loss for the Portly Angler team is 127 pounds. Lets see how quick we can get this over 200.

I hope he is OK but we haven't heard from Justintrask since the first week so I will PM him to see if he is still in or if I should take his name off the grid.

Sorry guys I've been on the road non stop for a few weeks. Although I'm following the diet for the most part my exercise has ended for a couple weeks and here we go...as expected back up to 294.

BUT...The Wife and I took some drastic action.

We took some Xmass $$ we were saving for a vacation and bought an elliptical machine from Sears. It should be home and built on Tuesday. Between the new machine and the two cord of wood that needs splitting I think I'm going to kick this weight loss thing into high gear on Wednesday.

Elipticals are awesome. My girlfriend and I bought one on cyber Monday just before Xmas. Love it. No impact on joints that you get from running. Well worth the investment!!!!!

I'll sweeten the pot a little bit with a $50 gift certificate to the SWE. It's an entirely worthy cause.

For those counting calories there's an Android app called Calorie Counter. Allows you to scan the barcode of a lot of things you might eat or drink or easily search items to make counting a lot easier, set up meals you have often, etc. Plug in your RDA and it has a running graph every day to see where you're at. Maybe they make it for iPhone too.

No, since I know what you're thinking, I haven't been on a diet to lose weight. I do have to make sure I eat enough depending on how much exercise I'm getting (usually cycling). 2700 to 3000 calories at day at times which is surprisingly hard to do if you're eating healthy.

Not a Zacs 12 pound week but I am pretty happy, down 7.5 pounds to 195.5. Worked-out every day, although light due to injured shoulder. The big thing was starting to write down what I am eating and trying to stay under 1200 calories and 100 carbs a day. The carb thing was really hard. :jump1:

Thanks guys, trying to make a total lifestyle change. Starting to like going to the gym a few times a week and eating heathly. I actually started my diet on Dec 11 at an embarassing 440 lbs. Keep up the good work all...you guys are keeping me motivated! Jay

196.5 - 1.5 gain - Pulled back muscle last Sunday but rested it up during the week. Felt good on Saturday and was able to run 3 miles without walking breaks for the first time - felt pretty good reaching that goal. :) Thought I did OK eating wise, I guess I just have to get better.

Stopped using Splenda, read it was invented when trying to develop a pestiside - that can't be good for you. I started using Stevia that is natural sweetener and it tasted pretty good!

Congrats to all of you, big time accomplishments. Keep up the great work. I didn't enter this year because I broke my hand right before xmas and couldn't lift. Hand finally healed and I've been hitting the gym like a beast. Started working out hard/dieting in Feb and I'm down to 238. When I started I was 265. 18 more pounds to go and i'll reach my goal for the summer. When the sun comes out, the guns come out. Train Hard! :musc:

Up a half pound this week at 193.5. Not bad considering the nice ham dinnner I had for Easter, plus a few leftovers during the week.

Ran 4 miles yestersay what seemed like all hills at Wampatuck to try and offset. Nice to see a few fellow big guys out there walking, biking, running. :jump1:

Not too bad for a short little fat Irish guy in his 50's. The bad news is I gained 2 pounds and I felt like I ate all the right things. Starting to get frustrated any suggestions on trying to lose the next 25 pounds would be greatly appreciated. :smash:

well there is the wrestlers diet. atleast 5 hours of intense work out a day and 2 small meals a day, like an orange counts as a meal, and normal fluids but just water. I went from 164 to 140 last year on it. sucks and i'd never recomend it but it works

Late grid update I have been sick as a dog all week, nothing serious though. Bronchitis with allergies really kicked my butt , can barely talk (which some people might find as a blessing) but feeling a little better today hence able to be on the computer.

The thing that really stinks is I have barely had a few bowls of soup and some crackers all week and I haven't lost a stinkin pound. :fury:

Anyway as I digress, still post your weights tomorrow and I will update again Sunday or Monday night.

Hello all...So I must have missed a weigh in or two hter lately...Atkins is working its wonders and I am just not cheating...I have been scaling on Sunday and today I was 266 lbs. OF course I was rising and MBBA Spring Meeting so I didn;t eat normal but the scale tonight when I arrived home was 266...44 waist pants have gone to the attic over the past week...

I will get that plug out this week
