I see in another thread that schools should only teach the three Rs.
What are they?
Is part of reading learning to read a cookbook? Part of rithmetic measuring ingredients, reading a ruler or balancing a debit account? (notice it's not a checkbook you old farts) Using a computer?
The three R's without some reference to things that are clearly useful get dismissed by kids pretty quick. Tie them into something they want to know and they will dive in further than you think.

Isn't everything fine the way it is? Who needs change;)

That's exactly what my wife says she teaches being the "cooking" teacher @BHS.

Especially come MCAS time....
