I have an imac g5 that is at least seven years old. It has become very slow especially with the internet and it is pinwheel city almost every time I change a page. Before I get a new one is there a program for Apple that can run a check on the machine and clean it up? Thx.

Totally have no advice for you. Definitely work a check at one of the Mac forums. Maybe download a system hardware test utility? I know several PC manufacturers make them to test components on PCs, perhaps Apple does as well?
