Got off the hook for jury duty yesterday even though I wasted 1/2 a day sitting on my arse in the jurors pool. but I was set free.

Did some touch-ups on the boat, blew the day off of work today, and went out looking for bait.
Found macks spotty, but ended up with about 40 of em'.
Big surprise though we were into cod like crazy. could not help but catch em' even though we had macky rigs on.
Caught quite a few, threw plenty back and kept four keeper for the table. YUMMY, don't get any fresher than that.

Saw huge pods of bait fish busting the top, I think they were herring, but there were no bass around, it was only 48 degrees out there. I don't know what was happening or what the fish were. Any thoughts??

Here is a pic back at the dock. Man it felt good to be fishing YEEHAA....:D
Shoulda brought my big cooler!!!!

Good Deal Van.... Looks like it was a nice day out there.

If you can get 40 macks on a "spotty" day you're "good" days must be unreal.........last year if we got 12 we thought we were doing great!!!

Still can't seem to squeeze in a fishing day yet :wall:

I also got out for the first time in Boston waters yesterday afternoon. All I had was a tiny sabiki with a 2" jig for weight. Mackeral snapped all the small hooks on the rig but I did manage to land a half dozen 12" macks on the jig. All the fish seemed to be holding at 20' from the surface which was about as deep as I could get the rig with the NE wind picking up. I kept a couple in the live well and brought them to my herring hotel at the dock. This morning both were alive and swimming. As to the bait I didn't see any surface action, which was the original purpose of the trip, but last year around May 8th I encountered herring outside by the Light. I dragged a 9" CA through the school and picked up a 38" fish, along with a bunch of smaller schoolies on a small jig. We just got back from the CH Bay and Delaware Bay and the consensus is the season is running 2-3 weeks behind last years. Water temp. in the Del. Bay/river was 55 last weekend, 50 outside Boston Harbor. Might be time to liveline a herring in the Back River for the first 30 lb'er of the season.

TRO:

Pretty sure I saw you out there.
Did you fish near the B-bouy?

I bought the heaviest sabiki I could find, only lost a couple of hooks. These were all horse mackeral too.

Maybe it was not your boat then.
